TV star hunts livestock

Guys, I think some of you are judging Blue Moon too harshly. The way I see it, he didn't create the video or lie about it's title or contents. The title of the video is misleading since no reindeer were shot, but again that is not Blue Moons fault. The show in question may have been "old news" on this side of the pond but apparently not where he lives and hunts. Blue Moon simply reiterated the ethics of the local hunters and brought to light some if not all of the legal aspects involved. He has also noted that nefarious folks may have sold illegal hunts to unsuspecting clients. I do not see his posts to be the work of a "Troll." BTW if I'm missing something here I'm sure someone will make me aware of it.

Elg in Norwegian. Älg in Swedish. Moose in English. I don'tt know where the Elk in Elkhound comes from. Maybe a mistake when they first translated it? :)

They are indeed called “elkhound” in this country just to further add to the confusion. o_O And I am pretty certain none have ever been used to course wapiti.

I think you have a legitimate issue that simply could have been posted with a bit more clarity. i.e. the clip shows Jim shooting a moose (or Elch!) The basis of my initial (and obviously too hasty) criticism. However, the fact that it recently aired and has ministerial attention is all the more reason to bring it up in this forum now. I assume by your Syntax you grew up speaking something other than English? For those members who haven’t tried to write something in a language other than “Murican” you might want to see how well you could articulate the issue in a second language. I think he has raised a legitimate point of concern, and now that the facts are fully out there, I suspect it is a bit of knowledge from which all could benefit.

So really glad you were reinstated by Jerome, and hope you will continue to join the discussion. Normally all of us, self included, are a bit more patient.

Thanks, I appreciate it!
English is my second or third language depending on how you define it. Yes, the clip (preview of the show) shows him shooting a moose with the help of a Karelian Bear Dog. Anyway, before posting, I found a posting on a Swedish hunting forum where people hade seen him shoot the reindeer. The title of the show would also support that. The SCI Record Book seems to have a couple of these animals registered. I feel a bit sorry for those who have paid large sums for these hunts.

Great case of "Buyer beware".

I appreciate the heads up on the general status of Reindeer in Sweden. It is a lesson in culture from my angle.

Scandinavia drew my interest after seeing the results of those AH members hunts in Norway.

No one is willing to come forward at this stage for good reasons, even the Helicopter firm (caught on a picture) that supposedly transported the reindeer in the Hungarian case say that they know nothing. Down below is a link to the old hunting report I referred to in the quote. I do not know whether these people still are active and involved in other hunts.

Thank you for answering this question.(y)

It appears that there are people in Sweden that are selling a hunt that is not legal. It appears that they are doing a very good job in fooling foreign hunters. Do to this thread I am not going to hunt reindeer in Sweden.

The only thing worse than trying to understand all the differences found in the english language around the world is trying to understand hunting regulations around the world. I am sure we all put a great deal of faith in our hunting guides and PH's to keep us legal. Unfortunately, there are bad people in the world.

Blue Moon, please share with us some of the good stories happening in the Swedish hunting world.:)

"Buyer beware" would have been a much better title of the thread. I am all for improvement, so maybe you as a moderator can change it?

This is the hunt you should be buying. :) Very technical and challenging.

Apparently there were hunts/harvests offered five years ago with the Sami People but are no longer available. I know because I tried to book one. More of a CULLING experience with the native people than a booked Trophy Caribou/Reindeer hunt. I found NOTHING negative against Jim Shockey in doing so.

Great to see if the US agent has stopped offering them. (y) Was it the Hunting Consortium that you were in contact with? They still have the info on their website that the hunts are available, but the site has not been updated since 2016. The Hungarian case seems to have gone through an Hungarian agent. As I wrote before, the Sami people's legal spokesperson stated that, according to them, it is not legal to hunt these animals at all, culling or not.

I like your title better. Besides, it's too late now.

I did not know that it was a 5 year old hunt when doing the initial post, because it just recently (this autumn) aired on one of the cable news networks over here. I mentioned this in a thread. Maybe I am a troll, but this troll has at least put in a lot of time in this to get the facts right and I hold my grounds. If it will make you feel any better I will definitely unregister. No worries. It will also save you a couple of bucks. :)
You bring some good information although this all seems a bit fuzzy still. I can assure you the Hunting Consortium would never do anything illegal and that is the only thing that makes me question the post. Maybe they have special permits?
I know they hunt wild bulls in Australia and Mexico and domestic goats the world over so hunting livestock is commonly done everywhere. I am one who doesn’t care how or what someone hunts but of course we are all against anything illegal. Anyway just my thoughts.
Hoping to get the K gun this week!
Philip

Maybe the reindeer that hunting consortium sold were/are feral, and/oror distance kills on the reindeer in Sweden were stopped in 2016/2017.(Hunting Consortium hasn’t updated the site)

Have you actually seen the show in which Jim Shockey actually hunts and kills a reindeer in Sweden. I have not seen the show. It seems you are very intent on portraying Jim in a poor light. AF is a digital campfire. We come here from around the world to share our stories. We develop a strong bond of friendship through our discussions, sharing of our options, and disagreements. In many cases we have spent the time and money to meet with each other at the DSC Convention or SCI. Some of us have even met up and gone hunting. Your first appearance around the fire is to bring a disheartening message. You do speak politely which is always a good indicator. However, there was TV show in the U. S. during the 1950's and 1960's called "Leave it to Beaver". Redleg and Phoenix Phil saw the show in its original run. I have only seen it in reruns. There is a character in the show by the name Eddie Haskel. He always spoke politely, too
Hey, I also saw the original Leave it to Beaver shows!!!

Blue Moon....................please do not leave us just because someone said you live under a bridge. Hell, this was the most fun thread in a week. It did get a little off topic, but even then, I learned something: Jim Shockey is a God (or demi-God) and in Southern Chile, Moose are called Large Mouth Bass.......or something like that. Thanks for the original post and for the perseverance. Keep a sense of humor here..hunters can be cantankerous.....but there are some good members.........and I have met them both.......................Flatwater Bill

I just had time to watch this video. I am afraid I would not be very successful in this hunt. I would spend to much time looking at the beautiful country. I would miss all the shooting opportunities. Thanks for sharing the video. It is joy to watch other hunters hunt in their land. (y)
