PLEASE, PLEASE, PAHLEEEEESE GET FIT FOR YOUR HUNT IN AFRICA..!

Colorado big game fees are getting too high for most non residents. Resident fees have also gone up, but not like non resident. When they combined the state parks with the fish and game department, things got expensive. We get charged on both fishing and hunting licenses for search and rescue as well as a wildlife education fee! Hikers, bikers, climbers, backpackers and campers don’t get charged. Seems a bit unfair.
I was a bicycler for many years and still do occasionally, but have never understood why as a bicycler you have all the privileges of a vehicle on roads, but you don’t have to have a license plate nor license showing you know the rules and have passed a test.

In New Hampshire they’re finally getting a hiking license . Search and rescue has spent so much time searching for lost or hurt hikers in the white mountains that they finally stopped charging the hunters for their services . Only took 50 years

"For some reason, after Africa, I have zero desire to hunt the western U.S. or Alaska for any big game animal. Between the exorbitant non resident license fees, byzantine regulations, tag lotteries, what seems to me like a state run extortion scheme and going after only one animal, it just doesn't seem like it's worth the effort. It may be for residents but a total non starter for this guy. Is it me or do others have the same attitude?

Reading this page is enough to make me say FK Utah."

I agree. It is the same in Colorado. You read articles about the CPW wanting to hire "Sharpshooters" to cull Deer because Colorado Springs is overrun with them, but try to get a tag. The Wildlife Officer seem to have one job, break the balls of legal hunters. The fees keep going up, the rules get dopier and more complex (good luck figuring out what Duck you can hunt, when and how many)

I got spoiled, I lived and hunted in Europe for 5 years. The landowner/hunting lease holder owns the game. Want to shoot some Red Deer? No problem, this lease has X number of Stags available, here are the trophy fees. No stupid 7 day "seasons" Simple. I wish they would do something like that here. Most of the good hunting areas are private property anyway.

I saw CPW here posted on FB they are holding a seminar on how to apply for tags and limited license tags. My comment was something along the lines of "If your system requires a seminar to figure out you need to make it less complicated for people"

Late last year I was asked to help a close PH friend with a wounded leopard. Sorted. Then I met the 'hunter' that caused the problem. At first, I thought the guy was just filthy-rich-spoilt-rotten, but it didn't take me long to realize that he was just too damn lazy to shit. And extremely unfit. Every 200 yards, the BWANA had to have his chair, umbrella and cooler-box. It's not the first time that I have met hunters who have planned a hunt in Africa for two years, have the fancy artillery, all the bells and whistles, but they can't walk a mile without passing out.

Guys, Africa is a beautiful place to hunt but, she's a also a real bitch. She'll chew you up and spit you out quickly if you don't prepare for her physically as well. At least get walking fit before your hunt. If you are able-bodied and can do it, being able to walk 5 miles a day, at a brisk pace, without breaking too much of a sweat, is where you should be to really enjoy yourself in Africa.

So, for your own sake, add a bit of PT to your list of 'things to do' before you get on the plane.

I am curious : Do you think he wounded the leopard because he is out of shape ?
