Hello all, I just wanted to post a brief range report after my first outing with my Remington 700 American Wilderness Rifle in 300 Ultra Mag. I got this rifle a while ago and when I was debating on buying it I had nagging concerns regarding Remington's quality control as of late. I went out on a limb and got the rifle. I'm happy to report that thus far this rifle has been great! The cerakote is great and to bolt is one of the slickest that I've felt from Remington in a long time. The Grayboe stock is also excellent. It sports a 26" 5r rifled barrel that is free floated. I topped the rifle with one of the newer sig whiskey 3 rifle scopes. It's a 4-12x50 with an illuminated duplex reticle (dot). It's a pretty cold 30 degree day here in northwestern PA, a couple days after getting roughly 10" of snow amounting to roughly 183" total so far for the year, UGH! I digress, I had a box of Barnes 180gr tsx loads to get the scope zeroed and do some accuracy testing. I had been trying a couple new loads in my tikka 30-06 before switching over to the Remington AWR. I got the 300 on paper at 25 yards and moved out to 100. Below is a picture of the target with the best group so far. The first two rounds were low left, I made some adjustments and the next two were pretty good elevation wise but a bit to the right. I made one more adjustment and fired the 3 shot group fairly well centered. The last few groups weren't quite as tight but I'm chalking that up to eye strain and my human error, I never realized how much looking through a scope with bright snow in the background wears out the eyes. Or at least that's the best excuse I can come up with on short notice . I just ordered a couple more boxes so I can get back out there and see what the rifle will do once it breaks in a little more. The scope rings (warne) didn't loosen nor did the screws in the stock. The recoil wasn't too bad, I was shooting out of a lead sled with some weight added. Shots from the standing position were not bad at all. With scope and rings I believe the rifle weighs in at roughly 8.5 pounds. My only real gripe is the trigger pull is a little on the heavy side for my liking but that's easily fixed. I'm also very pleased with the scope, the glass was clear and the adjustments were accurate. I'd like to tinker around with some 200gr A-frames in the future but I'm pleased with the 180gr Barnes so far. Below are a couple pictures I snapped during and after the outing. Next on the list will be getting my weatherby mk v accumark in 340 weatherby out once I get my new scope mounted on it, but that's another story for another day hahaha.
Thanks,
