If you are not hunting elephants then I would suggest the 416 Remington magnum. Suggested Bullets for 458 would be the 400 grain which actually had more energy than the 500 grain bullet.
The Remington - I suggest the 350 rather than the 400 grain round nose.
The energy difference between the above Bullets weights is, honestly very little in realistic terms.
The Lott has a limitless but going fir it in that it is slightly more versatile than the 416.
The Lott had a recoil factor of righty 15% more than the Remington magnum. If you are practising a lot (pun intended) you may want to think about the recoil factor!
For deep, deep penetration the 500 grain Lott will be better.
Personally, I would take the Winchester. I hope this helps. Other members will obviously have different opinions and, so be it.

However I also have a collection of Ruger Mark II RSM rifles and love them. Especially the customized one in 505 Gibbs which laid out a buffalo fantastically.

For your stated purpose, get the Ruger... it is much more interesting. In fact, find one with the elephant on the floor plate And if you come across one in 375 with the lion... alert me immediately as I need it to complete my collection.

both cartridges are great for buffalo. my choice would be 2 rifles, one in each cartridge!
