Namibia free range plains game hunt

I'd highly recommend Kowas as well, and I can't add any more to this conversation as everything said about Kowas is spot on with what we witnessed as well. This was my first hunt in Africa and I'm glad I chose them as they made the trip wonderful and worry free. I did a write up on it shortly after returning. I am hoping to make a return trip in 2020 to hunt with them again.

The nice thing is with this forum you will get many good recommendations from people on here for a lot of good outfits to help you make an informed decision.

Been to Kowas 3 times and will go with them again. You won't find a more honest, hard working bunch than Danie, Jacque, Ansie, and all the crew. Fantastic hunting and service. They will be at DSC.

Lol. Have to give Kowas credit for digital situational awareness! They have generated what - four new members offering testimonials. :sneaky:

They get highly recommended because they are world class people with world class hunting.....no funny business like your friends at Omujeve. I have two acquaintances, a husband and wife, that have to weigh about 330lbs each, and can't walk enough to hunt their way out of a paper bag. Miraculously they each killed a leopard with Omujeve within ONE DAY total. Two leopards, one day, in the middle of the day. A couple days later the husband kills an elephant within 30 minutes of his first day hunting them. They've had several PH's quit over the years to avoid answering questions about these type of hunts.

“Your friends at Omujeve” - never hunted with them so have no idea what you are talking about. They do, however have an established reputation. I have no informed opinion about Kowas - have never hunted with them either. I have hunted with Nick Nolte, Jamy Traut, and Derk de Bod, any of which could satisfy the OP’s goals. However, rather than rely on my limited experience (four Safaris and three different outfitters in Namibia) I did suggest he use a hunting consultant. I would assume neither you nor Kowas has an issue with that?

I will be booking my first trip to Africa at the DSC show this year and I would like it to be free range hunt for plainsgame. I have talked via email to omujeve safari and they seem to offer what I would like. I have read a few reports on them and everything I have read seems positive. Are there any other in Namibia that is free range that anyone recommends? Also I'm sure trophy size won't be as good but will it still be close? Thanks for any info!
Dear Travis2282
Enjoy the planning process of scouting and selecting the destination of your your potential safari to Africa. Ensure that you ENJOY the planning process, since it forms a huge fun part of your safari.
We will be in booth no 2500 if you want to talk to us - or our references at the DSC. Let us know if you request our reference list.
In the meanwhile: happy hunting and straight shooting...

I have to add my strong recommendation for Kowas Hunting Safaris. I and two friends went there in May of this year and had a fantastic trip. It was our first trip to Africa so we had done a great deal of research including references who had actually been to the various safari locations. All the people we talked to that had been to Kowas had glowing reports. Our experience confirmed those reports - Their PHs were awesome, the facilities and meals were outstanding, and the Strauss family truly provides a friendly and responsive environment. They even fix problems that are not theirs . . . like when KLM failed to deliver our rifles - Danie and Ansie contacted KLM directly and got them on the next flight. As far as we could tell, our "insurance" company did nothing. The quality of the free-range game at Kowas was also exceptional. With Kowas, you have huge expanses of scenic country to hunt with excellent accommodations back at the lodge.

Meant to say "our friends at Omujeve" tongue in cheek. Poor execution on my part. As to your whining about Kowas, I'll let them speak for themselves about consultants, but I've never had the need.

Lol - whining - seriously?!? I merely found it amusing that the OPs query generated now what - half a dozen “unsolicited” new memberships and testimonials? I am simply acknowledging Kowa’s digital marketing sophistication. I am sure they are likely a great outfit. But, I have no idea. I have never hunted with them. Nor does anyone have much of a standard of comparison if the sum total of their African experience is a single outfitter. Just saying. I simply noted to the OP that the use of an established consultant cuts thru a lot of that experience gathering. You are indeed fortunate to have apparently never needed any such experience upon which to base an investment. I have.

Well Kowas didn't need to 'digitally market' me, nor am I a newly joined member, and I can heartily recommend them first hand.

We had a wonderful experience there in May 2016 and I'd love to return. You certainly won't go wrong trusting Kowas with your safari.

Cheers
Tim

My wife and I have hunted 3 times in Africa -- twice in South Africa and this last time in Namibia. We could not have asked for a better hunting experience than what we received with Kowas Safaris in Namibia. It is DEFINITELY free range hunting. The Strausses own and operate this family hunting business. Jacques Strauss is an excellent PH -- do not let his younger age fool you! He was raised in the bush and he is an excellent guide! Matthews is their other PH and he is amazing. My understanding is that he has been with the Strausses 20+ years. There is truly no "canned hunts" when you hunt with Kowas Safaris owned by Danie and Ansie Strauss. You will hunt on the Dordobis Conservancy. You will do a lot of walking, stalking, searching for the game. I hunted for an Oryx and a Kudu this time and was beyond pleased with the trophies I took -- not only because of the size of the animals/trophies, but also because of the entire hunting experience. I had already taken many plains game in my prior hunts. But I was astonished at the quantity of animals as well as the quality. We will definitely be returning to Kowas Safaris. My wife has told everyone about how wonderful our hunting experience was this past April -- she even took information to her OB/GYN and her dentist. She (well ... we) have been telling everyone who will listen about Kowas Safaris. They are all wonderful!!

I don't even know what digital marketing means. I have been an AH member for a while. I recommended Kowas based on my experience in 2011 as well as my visit this past October

I hunted for two years with Namibia Hunting Impressions. They are just east of Windhoek and offer about 25000 acres to hunt on. All free range there. Kate and Kurt Duval run a first class operation. I would highly recommend them to you.

They have access to more than that 25,ooo aces. I meant to include it. I have taken two Gold Medal Springboks, two Gold Medal Red Hartebeest, one the second largest ever shot on the farm. A Gold medal Steenbok, just short of getting in the record book in Namibia. They treated my sister and I like family and food was great.

My recommendation wasn't solicited either. I simply read a question and wanted to steer a first timer right. I don't post much but have read the boards regularly for a few years. I have hunted Namibia twice. Kowas was the better of the two hunts. They were personable, organized, and guided me to great free range trophies. They are a good fit for what the op is looking for and wanted to share the little bit of knowledge that I have.

I've noticed the same thing. I hunted at Nick Nolte's place in 2014. He runs a quality operation. His rep here in Sask is Orion's Taxidermy. You can find price lists for Nick's on that website.
What's Nick Nolte's place in Namibia called? Is there a website? I saw Orion's in Saskatoon sports show last year.

It's called Nick Nolte Hunting Safaris. As I said above, there is a website, but it is not working for some reason. You could try Facebook or contact Orion Taxidermy.

So, could you please spend some time and share a hunt report with us including the pictures of your trip.
Thanks
