looking for some opinions.... two equal packages .... same animals ... same hunting days .. all inclusive .... two great outfitters.... anybody have experience with either or both ??? First time to Africa .... how do I choose between Dries Visser Safaris and Kuche Safaris ?????

First off welcome to AH!

I have not hunted with either but have heard of both. Check the forum for hunt reports on each one. Also, check as many references from each outfitter as possible and determine what is important to you. Best of luck!

I’ve heard nothing but good reports about both .... going to meet with Koos DeMeyer of Kuche Safaris at the NRA show in Harrisburg .,, would have liked a face to face meeting with the Dries Visser camp but .,., Gotta break this tie somehow !

Perhaps it comes down to area/terrain and trophy quality of one or two species with one outfitter versus another then.

Start looking at the conditions of the agreement.
One excludes 14% VAT from day rates. Perhaps the prices are not the same.

Properties to be hunted.
Size of the Outfit
Bow hunting or Rifle hunting?
Posting Fees and rates

Vat and all other taxes included ... airport pick up and return .... 4 animal package Kudu .. gemsbok ,, Impala and Blesbok ... both Limpopo.... I mean .,, these packages are are basically exact .... I had a quote already from Kuche Safaris .... DVS matched it ..,, they had a 2018 price list increase ... I’m going on 2019 ... they agreed to give me the 2017 pricelist in 2019 .... I’m leaning towards DVS unless Koos somehow sways me when we meet in Harrisburg

Matching a quote is not hard work.
Have a look at the conditions surrounding cancellation. Etc

I’ve also been in contact with the US rep for Lekota Safaris.... he’s told me I’m getting a heck of a deal and he’s not sure how they’re even doing it

I haven't hunted with either of them.

Kuche does come to our small local hunting show. There is normally a group of his past hunters at the booth having a good time. I assume they are happy.

Now if you asked about some of the outfitters in the hunting reports you find on AH, I bet you would get a lot of great advise.

All the best on your decision.

I would not read to much in to matching a quote would have been better to see his offer straight up. I have not heard anything bad about either but more then a few on here who would give you a great hunt also. I would do more research if I was you with some guys from the site.

I started out looking at every outfitter I could find .. wanted to hunt in Limpopo so I eliminated ones from other areas .., I want the “African” experience ... I don’t want to stay in a place that looks like a fancy hotel built out in the bushveld so I eliminated those as well ... I emailed many outfitters for quotes for 7-10 Day hunts for the animals we are interested in ... some quotes were simply too high ... Limcroma is still on my radar and I will be meeting with them in Harrisburg .... they are still $1500 higher than my other quotes for all the same inclusions .,.. I’m also in contact with the US Rep for Lekota Safaris .,,, Having been yo Africa 5 times already and going again this year .. he’s been a great source of info ,,,,,

If any outfitters on this site can offer me what I’m looking for at or very near the rates I’ve already secured I’m more than willing to consider other offers .... so far nobody has come close .,., most are $2000 or more higher for the same package ......

You’ve been to Africa five times already? If so then you should be able to tell who’s going to give you what you want fairly easily.

If this is your first trip, go with your gut, and don’t let the price be your main concern, it’s a trip that will be in your memory for the rest of your life.

Also, we as clients shouldn’t be expecting outfitters to be cutting each others throat.

Aaron, this happens all the time. This industry comes down to a willing buyer willing seller scenario which creates opportunities, often abused.

If clients expect Outfitters to match or beat competitors quotes to win their business, would this not create a sense of resentment on the Outfitters behalf towards that specific client? Can the client expect an Outfitter to give 100% or go that extra mile for a hunt he had to cut back on to win?

I'm sure there are many opinions, this is mine.

Choose an Outfitter who meets all your requirements, not just price.

There are several fine outfitters here on AH that make you a good package. And you would get the references you need quickly and without hesitation.

Kududreamer, at this point your best bet is to talk to as many of each respective outfitters previous clients as possible. See how satisfied they are and what they would want different next time . The bottom line is important to all of us, but it is not the only thing to consider.

I would recommend keeping Limcroma on your radar. Lots of Limcroma clients here can attest to the high quality, high value safari they can provide myself included. Hannes runs a first class outfit. They were a bit more expensive on trophy fees than my top 3 at the time but all of my animals would have made the SCI book. Trophy quality is often the reason for price differences among outfitters. Depends on your goals and expectations.

The Outfitter can always say no. That is a choice.

It will come down to trust in the end.

There are reasons for great reputations in the industry. If the dollar is the major focus, then you will get what you focused on.

@Kududreamer I just returned last August from my first Safari. I hunted with Kuche and was with the first group of hunters in their new lodge. It was my first trip, so granted, I have nothing to compare to. But I had a great trip and will hunt with them again next time I hunt Limpopo.
The lodge is comfortable, staff was friendly and capable, Never’s cooking was out of this world, the PHs and trackers were very knowledgeable and fun to hunt with. Koos’ properties were large and trophy quality was excellent.
I have no doubt there are other great outfitters in the area, I met the Limcroma’s people in Dallas last month and they seem 1st class. But Kuche has made a return client of me.
