Germany Hunting Pictures

WMH Foxi?

Shame I could not make it.

Some pics from a local drive hunt today. I was out today as a driver rather than a Hunter to get some experience for my Jagdterrier Trigger. We ended up taking 40 hogs, a roe deer, and a fox.

Waidmannsheil.
In Hessen (a province in D) is so much prey at the moment, that the meat trader pay only 0,90 Cent/kg.

Nice guy your Trigger,
Happy with him ?
What Ive heared about(Basti) ,you can be happy.
Regards
Foxi

Waidmannsdank Foxi! Wow, only 90 cents a kilo? That is nothing. We hunted in Hessen. This was a record setting hunt for this revier. Last year we only took 26 on the same hunt. Yes, trigger is good on blood but he has no interest in chasing boar. Even the dead ones, he will smell them but that is it. I have another hunt tomorrow and will see how he is on fox and hare.

Unusual that a Jagdterrier doesnt chase the pigs.Normaly they are the hardest bones under the hardest.
At the dead prey our dogs have also no interest,in some cases only for lunch (n)
But young dogs need sometimes an awakening experience.
Nice rifle you are using, with doctor sight or so.What is the English word for "Schichtholzschaft"-(the stock on your gun)
You are also a lefthander like me.
Caliber ? Bullets ?
Waidmannsheil.

a Dackel is a Dackel, all the others are only dogs :)

So right, Foxi, my favorite dog !

We call them Teckel in Spain.

Love the video. Tough little dog. If Jack Russel's are the small dog of southern Africa, then Dakels were the small dogs of Tanzania.

At one point as a kid we had a dackel and a mutt. They spent the nights on the patio. When leopards were around the mutt would run to the storeroom. It had a levered handle. She would paw at the handle with her weight pressed to the door till it opened and they would go in and push the door shut behind them. In the wet season the door would swell and stick at the bottom. The mutt would paw at the handle and the dackel would run as fast as she could and ram the door with her head. It would take two or three times but they would get in. If we heard the leopards, we would put the dogs up. If we didn't hear the leopards, then after the first head slam into the door, or a certain type of bark, dad would get up to let them in, but he rarely had to do that. They normally always got in on their own. Great little dogs!

my Dackel can even drive :)

Wheels,
I envy you your youth in Tanzania.
When did you leave ?

Obviously you have a very talented dog! Mine had the same coloration. Her name was Fupi, meaning shorty.

We left in 1970.

As a side note the following is something you might find interesting. In the British colonies they did not use the word German Shepherd to describe that dog breed. It was always Alsatian. If you said German Shepherd around a Brit, they would look at you confused and say, "you mean Alsatian?" If you said Alsatian around a German in Tanzania, they would say, "You mean German Shepherd!".:D

Wheels,
the British can be sometimes very special :) (they like it so much to drive at the wrong side, isn't it? :) ;)
Im sure that they banned the 9,3x62 and 9,3x64 in their colonies for Big Game only because it was German.
My PH in Zambia (a model exampel of British post colonial ivory) said ,bring them them and no one cares.
Merry christmas

The 9.3's are more than capable of taking the big 5. It is my understanding that some Rhodesian's culled elephant with 30-06.

Wilhelm II and George V, two cousins. Two million plus British and Germans died. There were hard feelings. Then thirty years later it happened again. The 9.3 was a longtime looser.

It doesn't go far anymore.

An absolutely amazing photo Foxi! Am I correct in seeing steam coming from his lungs? Love your posts.

Dackel und Füchse.JPG

Got these pics today from a good friend ,which was fox hunting (in their den) last Sunday with his Dackel and he got two of them .
Male and female, foxes are in the rut now and to visit the girls can be dangerous
We are in Germany almost overpopulated with foxes.
Since the enormous maize cultivation for Biogas ( since mid 80ies), we have so many wildboars and most hunter dont want to shoot a fox ,when they are going now on boar.
They don't want to scare the pigs off by shooting them.
Foxes in high population getting so often Mange (Räude in German,I dont know so Mange is a correct word,Scabies in Latin).
They are dying in a horrible long way, when they get Scabies. It's really necessary to reduce them more as it is today.

A Dackel (in the northern part of Germany they say Teckel ) was in the former life a Velociraptor ;)

We wasn't hunting yesterday, we visited the wonderful zoo in Munich (named Hellabrunn)
From all fantastic animals there ,benteth the wolves,no one impressed me so, like the two lion brother there.

It looks like, that he was just comming from the hairdresser.

But his brother ,not quite such a beauty, impressed me more.
More the predator type.(Sorry for the quality of this cellphone pics)

This would be the mine, when I meet him in the wild African jungle (y)
Good start for this week.
