Good morning!

While sitting in a tree stand this morning (which is finally a cool one in Texas), I️ began looking up flights for my September trip to RSA.

My question to everyone is: Have you had a layover in Amsterdam? If so, did you have any trouble transporting archery equipment?

I️ will not be bringing a rifle this year...bow and arrow only. I️ have heard transporting a rifle through there can be a pain. In the past, I’ve flown from Houston to Atlanta, and then to Jo’Berg.

Appreciate any info you can pass my way!

Buy once, cry once. Take the 200/201 to Joberg and be done with it. You're going to add who knows how many hours flying and travel time any other way.

I’ve taken the 200/201 flight several times.

However, I’m considering a layover in Amsterdam to see the area. I’m not interested in spending time there during the trip if there is a chance I’ll have an issue with archery gear...

I went through Amsterdam on Klm to Windhoek , Namibia , no problems at all but you can't take arrows or broadheads , bows only . no problems at all and there's a hotel in the terminal with flexible. Check in amd out times so its cheap

What did you do to get arrows and broadheads?

This is from Customs in Holland. If I am reading this correctly, it appears they are treating arrows and broadheads like firearms. You may be able to obtain a license from the Dutch government and avoid confiscation.

Weapons, ammunition and dummy weapons and explosives

Do not bring any weapons, ammunition and explosives with you on your trip, and do not have them imported in the Netherlands and the European Union (EU) either.

You are only allowed to bring in weapons, ammunition and explosives if you have been issued a licence by the Dutch government. You also must have a licence for firearms used for shooting sports and hunting. Are you bringing in these weapons or explosions without a licence? We then seize these items.

Examples

Examples of weapons and ammunition are:

  • firearms
  • bludgeons, thrust and stabbing weapons (such as knives, brass knuckles and swords)
  • gas heat guns
  • airsoft equipment
  • alarm guns
  • pepper spray
  • dummy weapons
  • ammunition

Well I was going to go through Amsterdam but looks like I can’t bring my Catapult so it rules that out!

If you want to see Amsterdam do it on a non hunting trip.

have to go with the Trebuchet. Better ballistics and better penetration. Break it into parts and you should be good. No idea on shipping costs though.

Maybe ship your arrows and broadheads to your hunting destination, well ahead of time. DHL, FedEx or UPS.

I just bought them in Windhoek there's an excellent archery shop there its called - Your Butt Archery - they made carbon arrows while we had lunch and good to go

The hardest thing about traveling through Amsterdam was the permits, which I hear has been easier to get. I found everyone to be courteous and their english was better than mine and the Flight attendance were Blonde and beautiful. The food was actually very edible.

Great News !
Looks like flame throwers are still ok to bring through Amsterdam.
(Unless of course The Dutch Legal Community lumps them in with "Gas heat Guns").
It is still however very unfortunate that catapults remain unlawful to travel with when some weary traveler is passing through Amsterdam.
Catapults are such handy items that, I thought everyone brings their along, wherever they may go.

Looks like blowguns and potato cannons are good to go!

ever since I got my CCL(concealed catapult license) I forget I have it on I’m so used to it. It is a sub compact model though but it will get me to the truck where my full size catapult and assorted bludgeons are located!
