New Ruger African in .275 Rigby

Rather than pay even more to ship this Ammo back to Hornady, I may just go to the range and reload what cases go off and discard what doesn't. Seems like a better use of money and time.

Wow. That's not good!

No sir, it is not. I don't believe it's the rifle either.
It wasn't the rifle with me. I tried 3 other brands and no misfires. Settled on Nosler due to accuracy as is typical in my experience.

Pulled the bullet on a case that didn't fire. Full length resize and a new CCI 200 primer. Dumped the 41.6 grains of whatever powder used back in the case and reseated the bullet. Went off just fine.

This is the primer as it came out of the case.

I hope you share all this with Hornady.

Thanks for sharing it with us!

It is lot #3141661 of the Hornady Custom ammo.

They want me to ship it to them on my nickel.

I guess it costs money to complain. I will go with Starline and Nosler.

I wonder who Hornady sources their primers from?

Took the ammo back to my LGS. Owner said it was too close to deer season for such nonsense and he would deal with Hornady. Sent me out the door with fresh ammo to sight my rifle in and hunt. Back to the range I go.

Remington Ammo is giving me a little over an inch group at 100 yards, which is plenty good enough for deer around here. I'll work on hand loads for this rifle when I get a break in work schedule.

Hell of a lot better customer service than anyone ever gets from Hornady....

On a different note ... apparently the Lipseys exclusive is controlled round feed? Like the old Mark IIs, unlike the current Hawkeye's. Can you confirm this Hitman? That alone would fire my jets on this sweet little rifle.

Aren't all the new Hawkeyes CRF???? I don't think the Ruger American rifles are, But every Hawkeye I own is.

Yes, all Hawkeyes (new or old) are controlled feed whether it's a Lipsey exclusive model or not.

So... Ruger uses the terminology “ controlled round feed extractor” .. very clever, that big claw looks the part... look at the bolt faces of the 275 lipseys and your hawkeye. .. also feed a round from both and stop the feed before the bolt head disappears, pull the bolt back and see if the case is attached to the bolt. If CRF it will be, your hawkeye like mine, will retreat with no brass attached to it, let us know!

I'm not following the purpose of this discussion.
