Hunting in 2012

I'm not sure what me and thebwife are doing right now. I was suppose to have my business sold by now but instead I'm expanding again. The only for sure thing we are doing is another sable hunt on the khal amazi this time for my wife. She's gonna shoot a sable livingston eland zebra waterbuck and impala. Then were going to either the luangua valley or Zambia or Botswana for a leopard then it's either to Zambia or zim for buffalo hippo and croc. Like I said, other than khal amaze everything else is still in the planning stages.

Well no Africa for me in 2012. I am trying to book a black bear hunt in Ontario. I need to stay a little closer to home this year. As a side note anyone with recommendations for black bear outfitters in Ontario, I would appreciate it. Maybe 2014 for Africa again! (Fingers crossed!)

I'm still working on putting together my family vacation/safari hunt to africa for next June to early July.
Will go for 3 weeks and still putting together my hunting portion to conicide with the wife and son's touring and sightseeing.

Good luck to all.
Les

Well let me say right up front, your doing it right your including the Family. Good Luck to you.

I will do the same. I live in Ohio and I am looking to stay within 8 hrs of home. I don't need a monster black bear. Just something that is a good representative. Cleveland has an outdoors show but it isn't till march-april. I would like to find something sooner. I will keep you posted.

RickB March-April is good as Ontario only has Fall Bear hunts check the web, I have found some for as little as 850.00 for 5-6 days room and bait to hunt over add 250.00 for meals 3 times a day.

Bob, that is about what I have seen. I saw a couple of outfitters that where as much as $2500. Most are about what you said to arround $1500. The only other question I had was about a license and tag? If I understood correctly the license is about $300? Bit I haven't seen anything for tags. If they are even required?

Rick I think it works the same way in Ontario as it does in Quebec when you buy the license it is for Black Bear only and the outfit your hunting with has to attach it to the bear once they fill out thier part.

In May 2012, myself and my wife will be accompanied by my sister and a niece and nephew for a walking photo safari in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. After this, they are all heading home while I head to the Eastern Cape, South Africa, for a bow hunt with Mike Birch of Hunt the Sun Safaris. I plan to walk-and-stalk nyala and bushbuck and hopefully can also take blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, zebra, and opportunity allowing, black-backed jackal, baboon, and (cross my fingers!!) bushpig.

Looks like there's going to be a bunch of us hunting the East Cape in the May-June time frame, Good Luck Phil on your hunt.

Ok that makes sence. I know you can get a small game license as well. That allows you to take a wolf. They are not as common that time of year. Wolfs are a little better hunting later in the year. But if the situation arouse I would take it. Well again if I get any more info I will be sure to share it with you. Thanks!

Just signed contract today with Aaron Neilson to do a 10 day tuskless ele and cape buffalo hunt with Ivory Trail Safaris in Zimbabwe. This will be my first DG hunt. Bushbuck or eland might be added to the menu.

Good luck. Shoot straight.

From a Namibian outfitter side, we can comment that we are satisfied with the reservations received for 2012.
Still a few openings to be filled during Feb/March/Sep/Oct/Nov - but 2012 looks promising.

Thats good to hear. That means that the economic problems of the world doesn't have us sitting at the house in stead of out enjoying our selfs with well earned vacations.

I am excited will be heading back to the Dark Continent with Great Land Safaris in Thabazimbi, SA. Looking forward to chasing whatever comes our way. Looking for bushbuck, wildebeest, klipspringer, and another Big Kudu. Who knows what else, that's what gets me excited the unknown.

Bob,

It should be a fun one. To finish off this year I am heading to Tanzania in 4 days, a desert sheep hunt in CA, and a Texas mule deer hunt in Dec with my 7 y/o son.

Good hunting to everybody.
I will share my plans with you, gentlemen, as I feel that my wife does not make an audience, that I think I deserve. Plus, she often interupts me with one and the same question: "Am I going?" After that my speech turns into a dialogue, and, eventually I find myself in a listener's position. Anyway, I have mentioned before, that I make my living by planning other guys' hunting, and, I usually accompany my clients as very seldom they can speak English. Sometimes I get to shoot an odd buffalo too. I am not shy to say, that I got the best of everything. I even get paid for that. And, to crown it all: my wife loves hunting too, and, she loves Africa too.
Anyway, these are my plans for the 2012.
First, in April I am going to Zimbabwe with 2 of my oldest clients (for one it will be his 13th hunt with me). One guy will be hunting both big cats, buffalo of course and whatever he will have time for. His buddy wants to get a big leopard (Zimbabwe type), a buffalo + some plains game. The hunt will be in Matetsi 1. For my lion hunter I have chosen George Hallamore, as a PH. It's been a long time since George is not just Lou's son, he is one of the best in his profession in his own right. And, he handles 2-3 of my clients per year. For my leopard hunter, I am still waiting for Greg Michelson to give me his OK. Greg is an institution in himself, only really the baddest luck can stop him from getting a big cat; I really hope that he will answer my request. There is a problem though: as much as these 2 clients like hunting in Africa, they have never stuck it to the very end; and, this time they will not be in the bush for more than 2 weeks. I just hope that it will be enough. Matetsi Unit 1 is a very productive area; they only have 1 lion on quota and only 5 leopard per year.
For May-June I am planning a short annual trip to the Northern Cape with 2 first timers. And, I found that there's no better place to begin African hunting than in South Africa, or, Namibia for that matter. And, after a trip to Wintershoek Safaris my clients really become my clients as Wiaan van der Linde and his crew turn over backwards to create an experience of a life time. My wife had shot a nice eland there last year, bigger than mine.
In July there will be a trip to Tanzania. I am taking a father-and-son team to the Selous. The kid, thou 14, is OK, but, daddy thinks that just because he had made so much money then he can shoot better and he knows how to put together a good hunt. Once he was preaching something to me, and, wanting to prove that he knew what he was talking about, shoved the magazine into my face, and... it was my article. We changed subject. It will be a tough one. They will both be hunting leopard, daddy will try for an elephant, but, the problem is the same: the hunt will last not longer than 10 days. I just hope that the Phs will come up with some tricks. These 2 are capable of some "medicine": Richard Ramoni and Mike Angelides. Almost forgot, there will be their friend too. His 1st priority will be HONEY BADGER. And, I do not have good PHs with good track record on honey badgers. Sometimes it's a circus.
But, don't you think that I am complaining.
In September there will be a trip to Masailand with 2 guys that will stick it to the very end, all 21 days of it. And, they will enjoy every minute of a long safari. It will be their 1st trip to Tanzania; and, both are in very good physical shape, and, they shoot pretty well, and, they sincerely enjoy buffalo hunting.
There will be some shorter hunts too, in Zimbabwe and South Africa, and, possibly in Mozambique. My schedule is a work in progress. But, what does not change is how I end the season. Me and my wife end my season with Wintershoek in the Norther Cape, (this time she wants to beat my Sing Sing waterbuck), and, then we will go to Cape Town and spend a few days just watching the 2 oceans collide, sipping Kilkennys at Mitchell's. And, then the unpleasant part: we will have to fly back to Moscow with its traffic, cold, etc.. And, this is when I start planning for the following year with Cameroon and Ethiopia on the horizon. And, maybe even one of my tougher ones will want to go for a mountain goat, or a Dall sheep. No, gentlemen, life is not bad. But it definitely became more complicated after the September 11. Peace to those who...
