It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you all of the amazing experience myself and brother, from another mother, had hunting with Ricus De Velliers and Jaco Wassells of White Lion Safaris.

From the time we set foot on South African soil, we were openly received by a big tall broad lad by the name of Jaco Wassells, who also happened to be our man in the field. While in transit from the airport to the hunting lodge, we engaged Jaco in discussions and I was certainly impressed by his knowledge of the area, hunting tactics and his extensive knowledge of long range distancing, spotting and ballistics.

When we arrived at The lodge, we were again received a warm welcoming and greeting from Ricus and his wife Nelia, along with chef Curtis, grounds manager Oti and Precious with Sheldon and Abram. The lodge is warm and inviting vibe with a good dining area, a relaxing leather sofa comfort area with an always well stocked bar with numerous beverages. You are able to view the numerous animals run right by the lodge from the comforts of a covered porch; which proved to be invaluable when the rains and incredible lightning storm moved in; short lived but none the less amazing!

The sleeping accommodations were amazing with full duvets for those cold nights, marble bathrooms, excellent storage compartment to lay out all
your gear and amazingly comfortable sleeping arrangements. The pool was cool and refreshing; I think we Canadians love our pools like we love our beer; cold and clean!

The first day we started our hunt, we went on lengthy spot and stalks, looking for the right game and positions to close our distances. Jaco is a very determined, professional hunter who gives it his all to ensure we had the best success...and he is funny as hell! His uncanny ability to position us close without detection; amazing use of sun and wind, as well as natural drainages and cover, gave us the superior edge we needed. We were successful every time we hit the field!!! His hunting acumen combined with his exceptional ability to provide the most unrelenting efforts made this trip absolutely incredible!!!

In addition to hunting, Curtis the chef, prepared amazing dishes and would inform us of his menu items; mouth watering and succulent. We had open bbq nights on open fire pit using an array of local meats while we sat by the fire and poked fun at each other. Curtis is a very cool dude, and apparently quite strategic, as opposed to Oti, in his efforts to choose winning football matches as well...

It would not prudent of me to also inform everyone that the skinners and helpers were awesome in their duties!

All in all, this was my first South African hunting experience and one that set the hook for me!!! I have hunted all over Canada, but nothing compared to this!!

My most sincerest thanks to White Lion Safaris for a most amazing experience, but more importantly new friendships. I will return to hunt WLS again!!!

Here are some of my pics to share with you.
