But also be aware if you're flying on to another country you may not be able to make a purchase.
On my first trip I wanted to buy tobacco for the trackers/skinners but I was denied because I was flying on to Namibia and therefore apparently couldn't buy in SA and import it to Namibia.
I wonder what happened? Maybe tobacco is different but most duty free can be taken anywhere. For instance what I was talking about previously was buying at the Big 5 Duty free in JNB and then flying to Zim or Namibia with your favorite selections!

Philip

But you can import to RSA?.... I brought a log of snuff with me.

I know the rules for importing firearms and ammo into SA & Namibia. What are the rules for importing Makers Mark?
Sir
You are allowed to bring into Namibia Makers Mark. However, Makers Mark is available in Namibia.

I knew about it because it was listed on the cost breakdown before the trip but I was shocked at the high cost of air charter. $3300 for a round trip for two people in an ancient Cessna 206. Each way was about two hours. That is $825/hour. I understand fuel, parts, etc are more expensive in Africa but as a private pilot and former aircraft owner I can't see how that price can be justified. Unless Zimbabwe charges the aircraft owners some massive fees.
