ZIMBABWE: Nyamazana Elephant Hunt - Happy Birthday To Me!

Congratz!!!!! Happy Birthday. Loved the report, you had everyone on the edge of our seat. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.

Unless you've been there and seen everything going on there is no describing the scene, but perhaps these videos will help a little bit. I never did get a good video of how many people were there and even the panning video doesn't show half the people even.

Crowd

Skinning

No tractors or front end loaders used here

You did well being able to get back to sleep. Nice shooting too.

It wasn't easy....

Side Note

This hunt really reinforced the "use enough gun" mantra for me. I wonder how much further my elephant would have gone if shot in exactly the same place with a .375 H&H? If a .375 H&H was all I had access to or all the recoil I could handle I wouldn't hesitate to use it. But, I also certainly learned that a .458 Lott isn't the "end all be all" for elephant either, at least not for a heart/lung shot. The old adage of take the biggest gun you can shoot well rings true to me now more than ever.

I may sound like a commercial, but it's true. Get a bigger gun and learn how to use it. I fired four shots at that elephant and never once felt the rifle recoil, which I attribute to adrenalin certainly, but also to a heck of a lot of training to do just what I did.

Congrats and all the best! Even though I knew the outcome, it was a well thought out post and you expressed yourself well. Emotions are raw when it comes to the larger animals, especially the ones as old as us. I especially liked the chicken pictures, when I was there I bought 2 for the camp staff. They were trapping rats for protein while I was eating steak. I just couldn't handle that. Well done!

What you're taking about Kevin was a big part of this trip for me. We have so much and it's easy to forget that not everyone is as fortunate.... I was reminded of this throughout the trip and especially as the elephant was being butchered. Not quite sure how to describe it, but the aftermath was as big of a deal, if not bigger, than the hunt itself.

Thanks for sharing the videos, it does give a greater sense of the whole scene!

The videos are exactly what I had envisioned for the recovery. The satisfaction of knowing you have provided so much for so many must be incredible.

One day........

Well done sir. Hard to believe that bull went so far with those kind of hits. Their vitality is impressive. Thanks for sharing this hunt with us. Many of us may never get to do it. This allows us to live it with you. Congrats Bruce

Congrats on your hunt and thank you for the report! I have enjoyed reading it a lot.

It's amazing what kind of injuries an animal can sometimes take. Even if the shot is good, there really is no way to be sure that the hunt ends as anticipated. I guess everyone here has experienced the doubts when things don't go as planned. And that is part of hunting (it's still not just shooting).

Thank you Royal for your hunt report we look forward to your next visit , glad your return trip home was smooth and without any flight delays. The Elephant are still coming every evening to the same place where you took your bull and at my other camp in Lupane so should be good for the next hunter.

I still have a 2 tag's available this year and if anyone would like to take advantage of this option please contact me via email direct . Its end of season so a good deal can be made for you the hunter I am sure .

All the best

Wayne

What a story! You did well my friend!!!

Even reading a well written elephant hunt report is emotional, never mind actually being there! Thank you for that report, and congratulations.

Great report, you had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Taking an elephant sounds like an amazing experience.

Congrats on your bull Royal and welcome to the fraternity!

Royal27, you lived your dream. Thanks to your story, pics and videos we all did if only vicariously. Congratulations on a great hunt. What's up next on your docket?

Thank again Wayne! For both the hunt and sharing your family and day to day life with me after the hunt. As we discussed, it was quite the education.

Hopefully there is another elephant in my future!

If anyone can take advantage of a late season deal you will have good odds. The elephants are moving in the areas for sure.

What's up next on your docket?

Still have to finish the rest of this report first. LOL I don't know after that.

I owe the wife her trip, then likely back to Africa. Another elephant perhaps? Or maybe leopard or buffalo? I do know it will very likely be DG again. I find myself craving that rush.
