Seeing that my Merkel 470 found a new home today, (with one of our members), I suppose this will be my dedicated buffalo rifle. It's a Winchester Model 70, 416 Rem Mag, with Mcmillan stock and Leupold VX3 1.5-5x20 scope. Let me see your buffalo rifles!

That will certainly do the trick!

Only one Cape buff so far. Montana Rifles Co 375 H&H, stainless steel, cerakote, Kevlar stock, Leupold VX-6 1-6x with red dot. Best 300gr handload-300 Barnes TSX, RL15, 3 shots in .62"@100 meters

Your 416 Rem Mag should put them down quickly!

The 300gr 375 Barnes bullet and RL15 is the same recipe I used on all of my Australian buffalo. Great load! Honestly, I never felt at all undergunned with the 375. I just want to use something different on my next buffalo hunt. Maybe.....

Powder measure?

Here my two. One is a 375 ruger Alaskan the other is a ruger no.1 in 450/400 nitro express. The only buff I shot was with the ph's 416 ruger Alaskan.

I have a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby that I haven't yet taken hunting but hope to use on Buffalo this year.

Last year I shot my first Buff using a friends ZKK602 in .375 HandH. That rifle was date stamped 1968 and the first time I fired it it was pointing at a buffalo. We found the buff down and groaning 10 minutes later and put a few finishing shots into him.

Just before that hunt I mentioned to a PH I know that I was going hunting and he said 375 was probably a bit light as the heaviest calibre on the hunt. Worked out ok, but I'm glad to have the extra power this year.

Here's the 416 Rigby:

the Winchester M70 in 416 RM is easily the most underrated heavy rifle on the market. i absolutely love mine and wouldnt ever consider selling it!

From the Barnes website. But I stopped at 72.0 gr of RL15 because it was already going 2,655fps. I may eventually back off to 70.0 or 71.0 if the accuracy improves, but .62" works well.

These three will have a new partner in the safe shortly. From left to right 375 H&H Ruger 1, Ruger Guide Gun in 416 Ruger, 458 Lott Ruger 1.
Took my buff with the one in the middle.

What loads did you use in the 416 Guide Gun? I had the same rifle in the African configuration. It wouldn't feed well with the Hornady round nose factory loads, but fed a spitzer type bullet just fine. I ended up selling it, because I didn't want a rifle that wouldn't feed all loads. But that guide gun does seem like a handy little rifle, and I might have to give one a try.

Sako .416 Remington. Doblete de búfalos sin problema.

Toby, I believe @CAustin uses Hornady ammo. My .416 Guide Gun had some feeding issues, too, but that's no longer the case. I didn't modify the rails or anything, I just shot it a lot and cycled the action now and then and it seems to have "broken in". I cannot explain how or why but the 400 grain DGX soft nose now feeds just fine.

I've also got an Alaskan and I've killed three buffalo and a brown bear with hornady Ammo with nary a problem. I've also backed up on an elephant with it and broke his neck to keep him from running off.

For what it's worth, I've also shot buff with 458 Lott and Nosler's and didn't see it as any more or less effective.

Same here CT. After firing a few rounds and oiling the rails she works just fine!
And you are correct in that I have used the Hornady DGX bullets without issue.

I thing the same as CAustin and CTDolan.
In my .404Jeffery I use cartridges from Hornady with bullet DGX and no problem.
This is very good bullet for buffalo.
