270 ammo for South African game

This was a group shot with the rifle mentioned in my previous post at 100 yds. right around 3/4" with the Browning ammo.

Thanks all for your input. Managed to shoot a Gemsbok, impala and warthog this weekend. All with the 270.
what ammo did you end up using and how did it work? there is a bullet performance thread here where your experience would be appreciated

Good to hear! I'm interested in what ammo you used as well. I've found that Swift loads their 150gr A Frame to (a claimed) near 3000 muzzle ft/lbs and fps that's looking mighty tempting right now.

That was the ammo I used. Great value for money and great grouping. Went through pig at 90 meters but not the Gemsbok and Impala. Last 2 shots on the range gave me 1 inch grouping at 100 meters. Hopefully weren't 2 lucky shots!!! Hit gemsbok on the shoulder, walked 20 meters, sat down and that was it. Mate had scope issues on his .308 so also took his gemsbok down with my 270. Same story.

Sawabona!
You are getting good advice. Just a couple more things to consider. Don't worry so much @ sub MOA accuracy. 1-2" at 100 yards is plenty good. Also, make sure it's an ammo that is easy to find and from a name brand with a track record. Have sone fun & experiment! None of has a crystal ball, but think if it is a product you can still get in a few years (Like the Norma Oryx, Federal, Nosler Premium ammo, etc..., stay away from off brands). I'd also, after you find a load you like, buy a case of it, stick with it, and learn how it shoots under different conditions & elevations. South Africa has much of the country at @ 6000' elevation. The bullets will shoot a bit higher that where I am here at sea level so be prepared possibly re-zero your rifle when you arrive.
Enjoy your hunt and remember, shot placement is paramount.

Barnes factory ammo works very well.
I have found that some 270's do not like heavier bullets like the 150gr.

I happen to have a .270 Marlin XL7 that has same impact of 130's and 150's. The gun handles great, smooth bolt and very accurate.
