I saw on my Facebook feed this afternoon an article that the new Liberal B.C. Government has announced a ban on trophy hunting for grizzlies following the 2017 season. Another case of wildlife management by political promises to the antis.

Ridiculous. I hunted up there Spring of 2016. Saw 8 Grizzly's spot and stalk... Never got a shot oppertunity but there are lots. Saw a lot more sign than those 8 bears. Black bear and wolves are very heavily populated.

I had heard this was being thought about, sad news if true!

That's too bad. I do not plan on hunting a 1 specie animal for 18,000 plus so I will keep going to Africa.

Not the liberal government. Technically they won the provincial election but a coalition of the NDP socialist and Green Party runs the province now.

Pretty much it's gonna be a horrible few years for a lot of people. NDP ran the economy into the ground last time they were in 20 years ago.

Too many city people now a days. It was like the trump/ Clinton voting map. Almost everything outside Vancouver and the island voted liberal. They're closer to conservatives then true liberals.

But this isn't a true blanket ban. It's a ban on grizzly hunting in the great bear rainforest. And then a stop to "trophy" grizz hunts in BC. All that means is you have to take the meat out. Before our regs always stated grizzly wasn't included in the species of edible parts. Now it'll be unlawful to hunt griz without taking the meat. That's the way I read it but I'm sure the government could change the wording to completely ban.

It's horrible. Not only is our provincial government gonna run the province into the ground probably but our whistler ski bum prime minster has me like

But then you also hear about the gov may not allow the hide, paws or skull to be taken out of the bush. A complete waste.

Something even the other Green Party leader has opposed saying it makes no sense.

Liberalism is a plague.
Agree but I truly believe it is also a mental illness. These people are crazy. There is now way you could truly believe that bullshit and have the ability to have rational thought. I have personally dealt with schizophrenics who had much more of an ability to think rationally than the majority of liberals. At least schizophrenics know and understand they have an illness in the majority of cases. Liberals are clueless.

Hell Atleast mental health patients know which freakin bathroom to use.

So, you must take the meat, but you cannot take the hide and paws?

*scratching head*

Whatever the hell that means. Perhaps there will no longer be a "success fee" because I am only hunting for meat.
I will also go to the bother of hauling that filthy fur out to make a cloths for myself. Waste not, want not.

B.C. government putting an end to the grizzly bear trophy hunt

Monday, August 14, 2017 2:45 PM

Effective Nov. 30, 2017, the British Columbia government will end grizzly bear trophy hunting

throughout the province and stop all hunting of grizzlies in the Great Bear Rainforest, Forests,

Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Minister Doug Donaldson announced today.

“By bringing trophy hunting of grizzlies to an end, we’re delivering on our commitment to British

Columbians,” Donaldson said. “This action is supported by the vast majority of people across our

province.

“In particular, we owe it to generations past and future to do all we can to protect the beauty and

uniqueness of the Great Bear Rainforest. We believe the action we’re taking goes beyond the commitment

to Coastal First Nations made as part of the 2016 Great Bear Rainforest agreements.”

There are an estimated 15,000 grizzly bears in British Columbia. Each year, approximately 250 are taken

by hunters. While the trophy hunt will end, hunting for meat will be allowed to continue.

During the fall months, Donaldson said that government will consult with First Nations and stakeholder

groups to determine next steps and mechanisms as B.C. moves toward ending the trophy hunt.

Additionally, government will be moving forward with a broader consultation process on a renewed

wildlife management strategy for the province.

“The key elements of that strategy will include dedicated funding for wildlife and habitat conservation

and a collaborative process in developing short and long-term plans for wildlife resources,” Donaldson

said.

Glad I got one there in 1978...Total cost then including $ 1000 trophy fee for 18 days was $ 4500,lol...Gorgous griz n 60" moose n almost a goat..Saw 13 in 8 days..I go to Africa now...Hell of a lot cheaper n easier..

Sad and doubly sad for the bears as they become worthless and there habitat will slowly disappear to development and barren forest substory cannot sustain them, not one of the so called preservations will spend as much as a hunter would on wildlife and conservation during there lifetime.

Wildlife mismanagement at it's best!

Absolute bullshit. This is anti hunting sentiments PERIOD. It has nothing to do with conservation or science or anything else. Glad I got mine in Alaska many years ago. Sad sad day for sportsman. Liberals ought to all move to France and live with the crap Europe has created there.

Hmm Lets see 15000 total bears. 250/yr offtake. Thats what 1.6%. Boy I'm so afraid us trophy hunters might actually affect the population in a negative way. Ya right... 250 times $20,000 is $5,000,000 dollars/ yr. Wonder who is going to pony up and replace that infusion of cash. Guess we'll see what the final rules look like. At this point its pretty obvious that that is no rational reason to change it. Trophy hunters are essentially having no impact on the bear population. Bruce

..........................We recognize that there will be some loss of revenue in small communities from many aspects," he said, adding wildlife watching is an industry that could see potential growth.

The purpose of the ban isn't because the number of killings is unsustainable for the grizzly population, but largely in response to public opinion, Donaldson said.

"People in the province have come to their understanding, their point of view that the trophy hunting of grizzly bears is not a socially acceptable practice in B.C. in 2017," Donaldson said.............................

The Minister states that the legislation was not created for any purpose but to impose a morality of a specific group of voters. I wonder if that is a valid use of their legislative powers?
