Importation or Transiting Procedures Through Countries with Weapons & Ammunition

If you are not stopping over and are truly transmitting, you do not require a permit.
Look up thread on Frankfurt here on AH and it will have the most up to date information in it.

Ok, I understand that part. We have about a ten hour layover going to JOH....so, firearms will have to stay with Customs, yes? Or would they be checked right through? Coming back is a different story...we would like to look around Germany for two-three days before flying back to Calgary. I understand that German Customs will store firearms with prior arrangements. If so, who do I contact to set that up? I'd like to get the information sooner rather than later, understanding that things can change.

Any time you can check your firearm to your final destination, do it.

The airport Police in Frankfurt held my firearms for me while I was in transit. I have zero idea if they will still do it.
They will not let them into the country without a permit for certain.

Email that I received today from Sabrina Stock from Ordnungsamt Frankfurt am Main Transfer (Amt 32 email transfer@stadt-frankfurt.de)

Ladies and gentlemen,

Regarding the permits for travelling with weapons and ammunition there is a change in procedure.

No licence to take weapons or ammunition into or through Germany shall be required for weapons and ammunition taken on board ships or aircraft, kept in locked storage while within the territory of Germany, reported without delay to the competent supervisory authorities (customs) (including the manufacturer`s mark or trademark, caliber and serial number) and removed within one month from the territory of Germany.

This arrangement is valid immediately. Already applied and paid permit will be approved by me.

For the future you don’t need a permit for your hunters / shooters going to a hunting-trip / competition via Germany (travelling by airport Frankfurt), so that we won’t be working together frequently.

I hope this arrangement makes it easier for you J.

Nevertheless I would like to say THANK YOU for your cooperation and your friendliness!

Kind regards
Sabrina Stock

Is this new?
Restrictions for South Africa-" No automatic, semi-automatic, lever action or slide action firearms are allowed."
I brought a lever action 45-70 to South Africa in 2016. I do not recall my seeing the lever action restriction. My PH & SAP must have been oblivious too. Going back this year.

I think I've been reading that restriction since I started on this site. I feel like that rule has been around for a while, but I've read many reports here where hunters took lever action to SA

Is there any guide for filling in the SAPS 520?

I'm heading to Cameroon early in 2019, and starting to think about things like permits. Does anyone have recent experience with bringing firearms into Cameroon? I can't find anything on the government websites, I've sent emails to the contacts at the consulates in Canada and the UK with no responses, and my Visa service company says they don't know about firearms and won't help.

I will contact my outfitter, but wondering if anyone here can help!

Thanks

As for Canada you'll temporary export permits for you firearm, scope and ammo. If your guns remain in transit through London from Canada you won't require anything but you do need to give airline advance notice you are traveling with a firearm. As for Cameroon your outfitter should be able to give you all those details.

Thanks. I've got the Canada bit down by now (though sorry to hear Serge has left the group in Ottawa).

Will be flying AC to Paris and then Air France (if they;'re still in business) to Douala. Done it before and except for lost ammo, it went fine.

So I should have looked at the website for the French consulate!

Which proves my point - People on this site know lots of stuff!

Thanks Jerome!

That was the first place I tried Jerome! There is no form for an import permit that I've been able to find on that site. I've sent them a note with a copy of the French form attached; maybe that will prompt a reply. I sent them a note about a month ago and have had no reply so far. If it comes to it, I will phone them once I am back in Canada.

Is there any problem traveling through Zurich with firearms?

So if a person wanted to spend a few days in either Zurich or Frankfurt could you just store your guns at the Airport?

The police in Frankfurt Airport were willing to keep my baggage/firearm until my next flight. Generous benefit, not an actual service.
I have not heard of a service you are suggesting.

Travel with Firearms through NYC Airports WARNING!!!
It is a NYC NYPD law that any firearms traveling through any NYC Airports must be inspected and registered by the New York City Police prior to going to TSA. Regardless of where the firearm comes from or who inspected it prior to going thru JFK. When I came home yesterday after clearing my rifle and ammo through ICE the NYPD inspected it again before sending it back to Jet Blue transfer. This require me to hand carry all my luggage from the JFK International Terminal to the domestic departures Terminal on the other end of JFK. If traveling through JFK or any NYC Airport with Firearms you must insure you have a minimum of three to four hours between connecting flights in order to get all this done in time to make your connecting flights.

When I went to Namibia for my Leopard Hunt My rifle was inspected by TSA in Burlington VT and Delta insured me that my Firearm and ammo were checked through all the way to Namibia. When I arrived at JFK My wife called and told me that the NYPD had pulled my rifle and I need to go to Delta Baggage Claim Office. I had my cell phone number taped to my pelican case with bold sharpie on 100MPH tape...yet Delta still called my home...luckily for me my wife was available to answer the phone and could call my Cell? Otherwise I would have arrived in Namibia with my Ruger 375 Guide Gun still in NYC JFK?

Be fore warned and be prepared

I carry Federal Law enforcement credentials when I used these for identification the NYPD then escorted me to the head of TSA Screening otherwise I may have been late for boarding.

I pity those of you that due to your location, have to go through JFK to go hunting. Even though I have been through JFK as a contractor, (no guns), being from the south, I never will have a reason to go through JFK on a hunting trip or hopefully for any other reason at this point in my life!
