Hello,

I am wondering what people think the best hunts anywhere in the world are, by species and/or by the location. I didn't see a section for a question like this, so I placed it in the Africa section - but this would apply to the entire globe.

I am far from the most experienced Hunter - I've hunted turkey and whitetails a few times in Maryland. I am not a bad shot, although there's always room for improvement. I have never been to Africa - but sooner or later it will happen ;)

Thanks,
Drew

Hi Drew, Africa is just the most magical place to hunt , the shear diversity of game is wonderful I love the place.
Some of the best hunting I have done would be stalking Roe buck with my son camping out in the woods. Red Stag stalking in Scotland truly majestic again with my son tough going but you really have erned the shot when you get to your stag.
For the most exciting you cant beat driven Wild Boar in eastern Europe that really gets your adrenalin going.
One the best hunts I have done was 2 days in Lapland hunting Capercallie. We stayed in log cabins deep in the forest and never saw a soul for 2 days and nights. We walked 12 miles each day over tough terrain and we got 1 caper. and 1 Black Grouse wonderful hunt in true wilderness.
On my wish list is Moose as I had to pass up my only opertunity as it wasn't a safe shot I my go to Estonia for that.
so long as I am in wilderness with good company I am 99% happy the shot is just the icing on the cake.

Sooooooo many choices here!

If I'd narrow mine down to just a few they are:

- Yukon moose

- Elk hunt anywhere in the west during peak fall colors

- NZ hunt- any species just go and enjoy the beauty while hunting

- Mountain hunting in Europe, again many countries to choose from

- Somewhere (and for me many places) on the African continent. Too many species to narrow down for me just getting out hunting in SA. Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, etc.

-Bongo or Lord Derby eland in Central/West Africa

Welcome! Much like you, I've hunter North American species but haven't yet ventured elsewhere. One hunt that has gotten in my head due to @Hank2211's report, is hunting for bongo.

Mtn west North America- on foot, large, old muledeer bucks Mtn West North America- not farmland types. Africa- tracking either free range dagga boy Cape buffalo or eland. So subjective!! ...but those are my top three.

Best hunt in the states to me is a rocky mtn back country elk/deer hunt horse pack in ether a drop camp where guys will take you in and drop you for a week or a guided hunt.
An Australian buffalo is on my buck list as well as a New Zealand tahr/stag hunt
African hunt would be any dangerous game in a truly wild place.
Bongo is another dream hunt I would like to do
I could go on and on

I cannot wait to hunt Africa. I am more of a fisherman than a hunter, but I enjoy both. Tanzania is on my fishing bucket list for tigerfish. They go 20+ lbs there regularly.
A hunt in Europe would be cool too one day. Belarus seems to pop up on many people's lists.
Moose in the Yukon are on my list, for sure. A big moose would look great on the wall.
I would agree with you - spending time in the wilderness with the wildlife and some good company is the great part of hunting - the trophy is an added bonus.

We share a few bucket list hunts - namely Yukon Moose, Africa, and Western Elk. I might want to throw in a Mule Deer hunt with my Elk.
Bongo would be the best hunt in a lifetime - I don't know if I could ever fork over $30,000+ to hunt one though. I enjoy hunting but I don't know if I could commit to a $30,000 trip!

Oh and by the way, Welcome to AH @biggiesmalls !

Thank you!

Bongo is probably my #1 dream hunt. The $30,000+ price tag isn't too attractive though!

I'd suggest hunting black bear on NC's coastal plains. We've got the biggest in the world!

I live in southern NC, few miles from the beach. Seen some nice sized bears before exploring the woods and swamps near the OBX.

Nothing beat a NA Elk hunt during the rut and having the Aspen trees turning yellow.

I'd agree with you here - a big Elk hunt in the northwest would be sweet. Horseback would make it even cooler.

Bongo in the Congo

Buff and leopard in Tanz.

Moose in the Yukon

I can go on and on..............

Please don't, I don't want to get any more crazy ideas ;)! Bongo are beautiful and the Congo is awesome, but a bit pricey for my tastes. Leopard would be cool - buffalo would be even cooler. Hippo and buffalo are probably my top two dangerous game species. Yukon Moose are on my list as well.

I'd do the Mule Deer hunt, but horseback may even be more interesting than on foot for this one. Elk in the same manner would be cool as well. Don't know a lot about Eland hunts - but a Buffalo hunt would be the epitome of African dangerous game hunting, IMO.

Your first hunt is just about exactly what I would want to do, some day. Australia would be a neat place to hunt, and I've never heard anything but great things about New Zealand.

Dangerous game and Bongo in Africa would be amazing - but they are both a bit expensive for my tastes.

Charlotte region Tar Heel here!

Welcome to AH !

So many possibilities.....not enough money

Anyway, if ever win the lottery I would hunt a hippo, and would just keep hunting buffaloes, nothing else.

I've got a handful of North American hunts I want to do, mostly simple hunts. I want to do two out of the continent though. A cast and blast in Argentina (Dorado, dove, partridge, pigeon, and ducks) and a plains game trip in Africa, maybe Namibia. Kudu is probably #1 on my African list (it's actually bongo, but $30k is out of the question for many many years). Dangerous game might be out of budget for some time too - but a buffalo or hippo hunt would be fun some day.

Here's a question for dangerous game hunters - what dangerous game has the most thrill behind it? I can imagine they're all different (hippos and Crocs included), but which gives the most thrill? I can't imagine forking over $10K+ for a 5-10+ day hunt where we kill 1-2 animals, with a gun I won't ever use again - that money could buy a LOT of fishing trips or fund several trips around the US for game animals.
Are there plains game trips where something like buffalo or hippo can be added?

I did exactly that last year in South Africa. I'm sure it doesn't compare to a free range buffalo hunt in Zim, Zam, Moz etc, but it was still a fun hunt and glad I did it.

Absolutely there are many outfitters that can accommodate this
