Perhaps the "Cold drink" quota just dropped!
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has unveiled plans to radically transform the safety and security at O.R. Tambo International Airport and ensure South Africa’s busiest airport is safe for visitors.
This comes after the Police Minister visited the airport last week and convened the South African Police Service (SAPS), the department of State Security, the department of Home Affairs, the Airports Company South Africa and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department to come up with a comprehensive plan for the airport.
Yesterday Mbalula announced: “We’ve suspended 7 Police Officers at the Airport, and redeployed others with new additions.
“Over 40 ACSA employees have been suspended for alleged corruption; we’ve reshuffled SAPS officers who have been at the airport for a long time.”
He said the reshuffling had happened because “we need an effective working personnel at SAPS” and said “we’ve elevated the status of SAPS management at the airport to Major General, which means, more resources will be out in.
