Bringing wife on safari...On the fence

Before I went to the expense of an African trip, I'd try a shorter, closer hunt with her, maybe a three to five day feral hog hunt.
Assuming she'll enjoy it is fraught with pitfalls especially if she's never been out of the U.S. That goes for men that never have been out of the U.S. and been without all the amenities of home either.

My wife and I have an "arrangement", I don't go to the Mall with her and she doesn't go to the woods with me. Works for both of us. That being said she has made a couple safaris to RSA with me as the lodges there will generally have a plan in place to entertain non hunters.

I think as several people have said make the offer and explain in detail what the wife is getting into and let her choose that way hopefully no blow back on you if it goes south.
personally my wife never has and never will go on a hunting trip with me. she goes on girl trip and we go on a trip together where she wants to go.
remember what they say HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE:D

Bottom line, you know your wife better than us. I will say this though, my wife has gone with me six times on Safari. Once to Mozambique, once to Zimbabwe and four times to SA. Zimbabwe was her favorite trip. I also say my wife likes to do some hunting herself and is pretty low maintenance. When she is telling stories, she always gravitates to the Zim trip. Between Vic Falls, the local school visit and the hint of danger on some of the days going with me after buffalo/hyena, those are her most cherished memories (mine as well!) For me, I enjoy my wife accompanying me on my trips.
If you do go to Zim and Vic Falls, I suggest staying at The Gorges Lodge. Get them to take you to the local school that they support along with a trip to the falls.

I would not take my wife on a DG hunt. If I were going somewhere with a fantastic lodge like ARU Game Lodges in Namibia, that is just an hour from Windhoek then of course I'd take her. She went with me about ten years ago on a tour of Dorper sheep farms in the Eastern Cape and then on to southern Namibia and had a fantastic time. We stayed at people's homes and greatly enjoyed the food and the company.
I do want to hunt Tanzania someday and I'd like to take m wife there but I have no experience with that country and do not know what to expect.
Regards,
Philip

My wife likes adventure and did not hesitate when I offered to take her with me to Zim. She had a great time and can't wait until our next Safari.
She did decide to skip the buffalo hunt because of the amount of walking involved. Having the shared experience of Africa made the extra expenses well worthwhile. But definitely ask her what SHE wants to do.

I totally understand your time alone thing. Sometimes you just need to be one of the guys, not a father, husband, boss or any of the other daily requirements.. That said my wife has went with me on 7 of 14 African hunts and and did some hunting on those trips and it was special to share that experience.

Sorry, I didn't read all the replies.

Forget about the observer fees, and whether or not they are reasonable or justified.

If your wife thinks she wants to go, move heaven and earth to take her.

My wife has never hunted.

She has always wanted to go to Hawaii.

Tonight she said that if we ever can swing another major outing, she'd rather go on another safari than to Hawaii.

Take your wife!!

Edit: She mentioned specifically that she wanted to see Vic Falls. :)

Slippery slope here..... 1) what does wife want to do? 2) is there stuff for wife to do 3) how comfortable will wife be?

If going to hunt Buffalo @aaaserapa I say go for it..... 5 star & massages.... going tent camping in bush.... my wife would throw the middle finger & say save the 5 Large!!!!!

However, every couple is different. Do your thing.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
