Very cool, congrats! Hows it shoot?

I have a series of 129 grain Accubond Long Range bullets loaded with Ramshot Magnum. If time and weather cooperates this weekend, I should find out.

Awesome!:A Big Hello:

Is it the old school 6,5x68s? :) in that case i have one aswell. A old school mauser 98.

That would be it. Also known as the 6.5x68 RWS. To my knowledge only the 8x68mmS has the Shuler designation although many add the S to end of this cartridge also.

Very nice build Graybird.

Love the combination of old school function (the '09) with modern application (synthetic stock and metal coatings).

Functional, practical and pleasing to (my) eye.

I don't know f.a about this cartridge but I suspect your at a Euro .270 type or there-abouts ?
Can you school some of us ignoramouses a little on the 6.5x68 please. I am gradually being drawn further in to an admiration for some of the "old-school" European cartridges and at this point have a 7x64 and a 9.3x64 in my cabinet.

One serious question. Did you need to have the action re-heated for this cartridge ?

Thanks in advance and congrats on a smooth looking piece.

The 6.5x68 looks very similar to a 270 Win, but a beefier version. It is longer and has a larger case diameter giving it a higher powder capacity.

It lies in the middle of a 264 Win Mag and the 26 Nosler. With a case full of powder, it should push a 130 grain bullet in the 3200-3300 fps range.

There is a sister cartridge that was released at the same time, the 8x68mmS, which is similar to the 8mm Rem Mag. There are also a couple wildcat rounds that have been developed recently, one being the 375 Holderlin. I'm planning on building my own wildcat in .308 caliber once I've finished with the 8x68 build.

The nice thing about this family of cartridges is they are very comparable to magnum cartridges but don't have the belt and they fit in a standard action. They were actually designed in Germany to take advantage of all the military actions after WWI.

Interesting gun, a lot of thought went into it!
