BRNO 602

@IvW how do you get that one in the chamber for the 5+1? I thought due to the large extractor claw the round has to feed from the magazine. Forgive my ignorance on this.

It is quite easy, you just need to ensure the rim slides under the extractor claw before closing the bolt. I load the magazine with 5 rounds(or 3 in the case of the 500 Jeff), I then place the round I would like to chamber on top of these rounds. Using my left hand around the bottom of the magazine plate so that your fingers come around the stock I pull this round down into the magazine(there is enough space to do that), you then slowly push the bolt forward and visually check that the rim slips below the extractor claw as you push forward on the bolt.

You can also use the right hand to push the round down and the left to operate the bolt, whichever is easier.

This may sound complicated but is second nature for us who use these rifles on a regular basis.

It is very important to ensure the rim slips underneath the extractor before chambering the round in order to avoid damage to the extractor.

I hope that helps to explain it.
I would also not part with my ZKK 602 actioned rifles, they are just too good and too reliable.

A man with a lot of sense no doubt!

The 375 H&H is the King of the medium bores and the 500 Jeff is the best bolt action stopping caliber in my opinion. I have stopped buffalo, lion and elephant with mine from all directions with the utmost authority and reliability. I have never needed to fire more than one shot either.
A true stopping/sort the crap out caliber and if built by a competent gunsmith on a ZKK 602 action you cannot get better!

Happy hunting.

lvW, what solids do you use on the pachyderms....in the .500 J..?

Does anyone know how to date these? I ask because I just picked up a 602 in 375 H&H. It does not have a peep sight nor cross bolts. Others I have seen have cross bolts. So, I was wondering if these additional items came later in the production years.

My CZs and Brno have a date stamp on the barrel, right in front of the receiver.

2 digits showing the last two digits of the year it was proofed

The barrel was Magnaported so there is an extra engraving. I see the original stamps, but I don't see the two digit year

The proofing and date stamps are small and should be just near where the barrel meets the stock directly in front of the receiver. Just near where the calibre is noted on yours.

The logo on top of the receiver and the fact that it says Czechoslovakia not Czech Republic will also give some indication of the date.

Should be here. Stamped not engraved. Not visible in this picture, but in the ringed area

Thanks! Now I am quite eager to get home and look:)

I'd be interested to know, as I have one that says Czechoslovakia (a 601) and one that says Czech Republic (a 600) which are date stamped with quite close dates. Early 90s both of them I seem to remember. I also can't check right now.

I'd be interested to see more pics to see the stock shape and the position of the front sling swivel.

My friends 375 that I used to kill a buffalo last year was stamped 78. That one had a pop up peep and a barrel band front swivel, both desirable specs that were phased out in later years.

The stock is not great wood, but I like the lines and how it feels. I will get more photos tonight.

Thanks for all of the information.

It's stamped 85.

Pictures of the stock shape, and position of the front sling swivel, as requested:

602 I love buy them at auction in England whenever I can have the gunsmith check them and sell them as buff rifles.

Amazing guns

@Pondoro

It is a bit late, never saw the question..apologies.

I use 570 gr Rhino Meplat solid brass bullets for elephant.

I just missed a similar rifle in .375 H&H earlier this week for $605. USD. I was on at $600. and got sniped at the last minute. I'm still crying. There are many smiths world wide who can clean up that trigger for you. Also, I believe that the Timney triggers made for Mausers will fit this rifle.

I am probably opening a hornets nest here, because I am well aware of everyone's feelings on rifles for dangerous game, i.e. push feed-vs-controlled round feeding. Does anyone actually have first hand experience (or even second hand) with a push feed action d.g. rifle not performing properly when needed? I read everything I can get my hands on and I have never heard of one verifiable instance of a push feed action jamming, failing to feed, failing to extract, etc. I don't care about someones girlfriends second cousin was told by a friend of the guy down the street. I want real world experience. Don't get me wrong here, because I LOVE my Mausers, but I also love my Remington rifles. I have never hunted dangerous game yet, but I plan to in 2012. I can buy any brand (H&H is just too much), but when the chips are down is one really better than the other. Not just your opinion, but actual experience with a malfunction directly attributable to the style of action. I am anxious to hear from everyone.

I have 2x 602's in 375 H&H Magnum, 1x 602 in 300 Win Magnum and 1x 458 Win Mag in CZ550.
I HAVE HUNTED ALL THE DG ( Big 4 ..rhino was darted...plus croc and hippo with the 375's and never had an issue!! No pushfeed jamming or extraction issues.
Have also not done anything to the triggers or other working parts...bar working the bolts in and out to smooth them off( particularly on back of the bakkie with sort of "dusty" conditions)
I did have a feed jam with the 458 ONCE on follow up shots to an elephant...BUT this was due to me short stroking in the heat of things!!!
HIGHLY recommend 602 actions in any caliber.
Strange to hear that you say problems with scope mounts??? I have scopes mounted on ALL of the above.. easy ka peasy!!! Mounts fit directly onto the factory slots on the action...
Enjoy your purchase....

Fit a spacer in the front of the mag to sort out the 458 Win feeding issue, it will happen during high speed reloading..

How cool is that. This topic was started nearly ten years ago by the chap who bought my .375H&H from me. How time flies - thanks to you all for talking him into buying it!

Thanks for your advise,

I`m told it will take 6 in the mag and has the sought after pop up sight as well as these rifle specific mounts. I`m not looking for a pretty gun just accurate and reliable at all times. I think the barrel is still 25" so that may require reducing.

I`ll let you know how it goes...
Charly

22 inch barrel would be ideal.

That Bi...was willing to charge. She wS the Bron and stopped. The rifle sacred her
