These boots are made for walking

My boots have now done three trips to Namibia. I reckon they are good for another three. The grip with the tyre tread soles climbing kopjes was excellent.
At the current rate of wear I am not too sure about my shins though. :ROFLMAO:
 
For me, any hiking boot which fit comfortably my feet, will do.
 
I just got my Courtney boots and love them so far - picked up the traditional Selous and also got a pair of Hippo Safari in grey. I wonder if I can send them some elephant and have some elephant safaris made.
 
This is Jim from African Sporting Creations and for those of you with narrow feet we just introduced the Selous in all brown in a narrow width. Since Cape buffalo is a bit stiff across a narrower span they are made from supple, thick kudu leather and so far folks who have bought them love them.

I was at the Atlanta safari show a few years back and a Namibian PH who used a pedometer to track how far he walked each season told me he wore his Selous boots every day and at 10,000 miles they gave up the ghost. When you calculate cost in cents per mile I do not think there is another boot that will come close!

Several hundred pairs in Ohio in many hides and configuarations that you will not see in Zim.

if i want to look stylish ill wear my Johnston and Murphy alligators in Italian style,if i want comfort and toughness and support ill go with courtneys every time.

i have elephant,cant get them here though.
 
I wore my old Browning Upland Bird/Game boots made from Kangaroo hide. They come in the EEEE width that I need. Very few boots do.
 
I suppose the ankle high boot allows for cooler legs in the heat, but it seems to me that a little higher boot would provide some protection for the lower leg from the stickers and brambles one encounters.
 
I think that is where the gaiters come into play.
 
Are Courtneys snake proof? Looks like prettythick leather. I have some turtleskin gators that I would wear with them.
 
Yah, the gaiter's primary function is to keep debris out... like ever so irritating grass seeds or loose thorns and such. Any tough gaiter may help protect against snake bite but that depends on type of snake and how high the snake bites. Probably some leathers like elephant or thick buffalo used in the Courtneys might be snake resistant but some, like impala, wouldn't be. I've encountered both cobras and mambas but the only close encounter was a mamba suspended about three feet above the ground in grass and brush as we we crawling during a stalk- yeowee! The type of boot really didn't matter :)

Totally agree that they are too much for most of African hunting. Personally, I would just get something like a hiking boot with some ankle support. Regarding the cold weather boots, imo, nothing keeps you warm, lol!

The Lowa Z6S is a lightweight military boot, available with or without Gor-tex.
 
I would get some Courteney Boots in either the Safari or Selous model or just some plain old Vellies (veld skoen/shoe).

I actually have my velies on right now and I'm at work. They are the most comfortable shoe around.
 
I have been wearing a pair of Wolverine Hawthorne boots, that I got from my mate Rodney at Dave Sheer Uniforms. These boots have been great and I have worn them on at least four hunts.
During the last hunt one of the boots was damaged (see attached photos of the sole). I returned them via DSU to the South African agents of Wolverine and the boots were exchanged without a fuss or any issues.
What great service!
I can really recommend these boots for hunting and for the back up provided by the agents

Ew! I think those boots are terrible! U.S. Army issues those as well, and they hurt my feet. The stitching points aren't right for me at all

They appear to be similar in construction to what the US had fifty years ago called Jungle Boots. I wore a pair in the jungle for a year with no complaints (about the boots). But to be fair, my feet were in a lot better shape when I was 19 and I had a lot of other things on my mind.
 
I had jungle boots when we were still in BDUs. Not a bad boot. Who knows what they changed. May have been a fluke?
