Cheers from Italy

Great land of hunting such a huge variety of species, wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, roe deer, chamois...

Found this amazing forum preparing my first trip to SA (eastern cape) in 2019 with my wife and my little princess (she will be 5 at that time).

SA has a special place in my heart, my grandfather used to work there for 20 years in the 50thies.

Welcome to AH, What brings you to this great forum?

I own (also..) a Blaser R8 in 7mmRM that I guess will fit well to most plains games and I can easily transform it in a .40 caliber just buying the proper barrel.

Welcome to AH Lorenzo! Glad you're enjoying the site. Hope you'll share also some hunting pictures from Italy with us. looking forward to having you on the board.

Welcome aboard!

Benvenuto Lorenzo, welcome to AH !

Welcome to AH Lorenzo. Lots of African PG has been taken with a 7 MM Mag. Is it the optimal caliber? I'd have to say no, the ability to change calibers by switching out the barrel is an awesome idea.

Welcome to AH sir.

Welcome to AH!

There are a lot of calibers that come to mind. My minimum for PG would be a 30-06 on up to a 9.3 x 74. Ammo availability needs to factor into your choice of calibers. If you are harboring any thoughts of a Cape Buffalo or other Dangerous Game (DG) you will need a 375, whether a H & H Magnum or a Ruger. Of those two, there is a greater selection of bullets and a much wider availability of ammo for the 375 H & H Magnum. I'm sure you will be inundated with others favorites.

Bonjourno Lorenzo. Welcome sir.
