Hi,
I welcome any information and experience with Burchell Frontier Safaris, S Africa.
Thank you.

I hunted there in September and took 14 animals. I was very happy with the entire experience. Feel free to pm me if you want specifics.

Myself and 2 buddies with wives hunted there in about 97 when Barry 1st got started. Great Food, good abundance of animals and good trophy size. Excellent PH and assistant. Good food and good equipment. Other than a couple of minor details you would expect from a young Outfitter the overall experience was very good. I took 12 animals. My wife took 2 and my 2 buddies took about 15. My one buddy was in a wheelchair and they worked their butts off for him.

Hunt report?!

Hello Eeleel,

Welcome to the best forum in the world.

I've not hunted with Barry himself.
But about 14 or so years ago, I booked a Namibian hunt through Cabela's and hunted with Barry's brother in law "Kevin" something or another.
Kevin was my PH, for my very first African safari, back when they were called simply; "Burchell Safaris".
Kevin preferred to drive, drive, drive, drive and wanted me to shoot from his truck at whatever animals he decided on.
He raised his voice at me in anger when I requested to do some walking about in that beautiful desert.
Grouchy man in general, no matter what the conversation topic.

Afterward, I wanted my sculls bleached and sealed, no shoulder mounts.
They arrived at my house within the typical more or less one year, no problem with the time frame IMO. However, they obviously either over-boiled them or over-soaked them in bleach.
The sculls were crumbling apart, teeth missing and they evidently tried to stop the horns from flaking after their rough treatment, by festooning them with what felt and smelled like axle grease.
Unbelievable.

I recall they were sued by multiple clients for such nonsense under the name of "Burchell Safaris", approximately 8 or 10 years ago?
Presumably, the final result of this class action will be found with a google search?
I'm not saying Barry had anything to do with my first safari disappointment, except that he was possibly part owner of the company with his family name on it at that time.
His father, Fred Burchell was presumably the founder of Burchell Safaris back then.
And, I met him as well but neither himself nor Barry did any guiding for us.
They were just visiting camp ("Daweb Sud Farm"), south of Keetmanshoop, Namibia, for a couple days.

Good Luck,
Velo Dog.

My PH, Jaco Prinsloo and his wife Tanya when I went to SA last year, is now the lodge manager and resident PH at Frontier. He LOVES to hunt!!! My dad and him have become really good friends. Jaco is also a good long range shooter.

Thank you.
Your interpretation of "free range" of the hunting grounds.
Attention by and ability of staff and PH .
Condition of the animals, quality of harvested animals.
We're and non hunters in your group and their impressions.
