This is where the trophy hunter should be allowed to help out. At least the land owner will be compensated for his losses and the leopard will be killed in a much more humane way.

I'd rather not be quick to judge. The video appears cruel to those who never have the worry of living with predatory animals and to those who are in more affluent nations.

My guess is that ammunition cost is higher than using the hatchet. This is probably what they were thinking.

That said, why they video taped it, or why they didn't allow a hunter to take it and receive compensation is beyond me. Just a bad deal for all involved, including hunters, and they weren't even hunting in the video.

@Lrntolive , I agree with you on what seems humane to others, but we both agree a hunter paying for the leopard, would go a lot further for compensation and I bet they could do with the cash.

The Leopard obviously was in a bad way from the start,if it was only held by a foot trap it would still have given those assorted mutts a good what for.
I imagine it may have had the sting taken out out of it off video.

Hard to watch to be honest. Such a magnificent animal killed in such a horrible way. A hunter would have dispatched him much more humanly and the funds would have benefited the land owner. When videos like this surface they do immense damage to sportsman and women. If you were an anti hunter what would you think??

Firstly bad idea to video, second the black people would not want to waste a bullet hence the reason for the axe, and third I'm not sure this was illegal at all regardless of that letter. We shouldn't judge these people it's their business.
It is a shame that Namibia, well meaning as they are, have banned hound hunting of leopards. I believe the statistics show something like a 10 to 1 ratio of problem animals killed by farmers versus trophy hunts (it may be more extreme even than this). Everyone must understand that predators who are killing livestock in inhabited areas CAN NOT be hunted successfully by conventional means! The will be 100% nocturnal and very clever. The only way to hunt them is with hounds. It's a win win situation because the stock killer is taken and the trophy hunter is happy. How much money did Namibia get for that leopard in the video $0.00!

Not sure why this would be looked at as bad for hunting. It is not a hunter or sportmans doing the actions on video. Maybe this sick act should be used to show what happens when animals and landowners/rancher clash. How all would have been handled better if a hunter would have been used to help fix the problem. This is once again the stuff that the average public does not see. Maybe a few more would see hunting as not such a bad choice over actions like this.

Some "Greenie" who thinks you can legislate your way out of it. THE LAW IS ALREADY THERE. There are laws regarding Problem Animal Control (PAC) or Damage Causing Animals (DCA) are already addressed. You have to apply for Permits, MET various conservation departments.

I'm one of the victims I lost two recently poor as I'm do you think given the opportunity will let the lions go just like that.

As you can well imagine there are more bloody copies (versions) of this popping up on YOUTUBE.

There are two firearms present that I saw in one version.
In one video I actually saw one scoped rifle pointed at the Leopard and I believe there was a report (at around 35 second mark). It sounded like it was a very small caliber. I did not show an appreciable result.

It is our jobs as hunters to push back and let people know it was not hunted by hunter but a landowner. The reason why should also be pushed. Also the fact that we as hunters do not like how this happened. This overall shows why hunters are needed overall for balance of wildlife.

I wish don't think anyone wants me writing something to the general public with my writing style. This is were the groups we all are members to and support should be driving this point home. In stead of just showing how we fight when they take permits from us show the reason why we think it is wrong. We always just come across to the public as crying when we cant hunt something. Here in my eyes is the perfect reason to show why hunting is needed plus all the other problems in areas were people are getting killed by animals. Lets start making them defend why any animals life is worth more then those poor people who need to deal that way of life each day.
