375 Ruger vs 375 HH

The debate goes on..
In the end what-ever makes you feel OK . Load them with the same bullet and they will do the same job.
Good Luck

if you will hand load the 375 ruger is a great cartridge! if you are not going to hand load, buy the H&H.
my ruger alaskan is light, short, handy, stainless, accurate and at least the equal of the H&H. but, does not have near the options of great bullets in loaded factory ammo.

hell, if my ammo did not get to Africa with my ruger, i would rent the ph's 375 H&H

If you don't handload and you don't like the limited factory loads (choice of Hornady or Hornady), there is a third option: Hendershots Extreme Custom ammo (https://hendershots.net/product/375-ruger-extreme-custom-ammo/ )

This thread is the equivalent of asking which is a better pickup truck? Ford or Chevy :A Drive::S Hijack::S Troll:

best truck is a Dodge! ....well, now they're branded Ram, but essentially the same thing!

Ford is the best ;)

At least Rosie knows her colors....gotta be worth something.

This thread can be summed up with this commercial:

Your right it does shot plenty flat enough magority of hunters. Although I cannot find the 250 TSX we have the 270 TSX. I just feel Why get rid of a 338 that shoots a 225 nosler partition at 2800 withe a bc of 454 or the accurbond with a bc of .550. YOu also can load the TSX bullets with the 338 also. I think all will shot a little flatter and penetrate better with the 338. Nothng wrong with the 7mm and 300 mag with 175 and 200 grain bullets either. They may be the best of the bunch for the average shooter who I feel will shoot them better a longer ranges. The 375 was made for thin skinned dangerous game (lions, tigers, and bears and for that it probably has no rivals. I just feel the world is full of cartridges that will work just as well on game from the size of deer all the way up to Alaskan moose or eland. I still could be convinced to buy a 375 ruger or h&h just to say I have one

DoubleTap makes it in 235 & 250 gr TTSX.... I own several boxes.

This debate could go on forever but remember if we all refused to move on when something new came along we could be still using flintlock and a patched round ball. In 1912 when the .375H&H came out I'm willing to bet there were a few old timers who saw it as unnecessary.
Now let's move on who makes the best premium pure lead round ball.

This is a great thread just having a little fun.

I would choose the Ruger for a rifle (standard box) and the H&H but Flanged for a double-barrel.
Theres virtually no difference in killing power.

To use in Africa, I suggest 375 H&H. Very popular, ammunition always available and can be used on any of the big five. Personally, is my favourite for buffalo. Very well balanced and a very manageable recoil.

All latest and greatest products are just another Edsel to me, until each has enough history to prove itself a Humvee.

Furthermore, I'm a firm believer in the old saying:
"If it works, don't fix it."

The reason approach: I love attempts to reinvent the wheel. A whole bunch of people drive around with square tires in the end.

The peer pressure approach: .375H&H....if it wasn't perfection it would'nt be ubiquitous.

The have some class approach: Or put another way: you just won a $300,000 best grade Hartmann & Weiss medium bore rifle...what caliber would it be by default? The answer would NEVER be 375 Ruger!

The don't ruin your trip approach: for the next 100 years every backwater town in Africa will have .375HH ammo. That fact will save your safari at least once someday unless you work hard to select a cartridge that will leave you SOL.

Losing luggage is a real possibility. Ignoring that can ruin a hunt. Even in SA, buying .375 Ruger ammo is tough. Everyone has .375 H&H, in even the smallest towns.

I decided on a CZ 550 .375 H&H not because it's the best rifle, but rather because it's a good rifle most anyone can work on and has parts for, as well as a caliber I can readily buy factory ammo to use in.

I have a .375 Ruger. It's a great rifle and prefer it over my CZ. However, I take both, pack ammo in separate bags and divide it equally into each bag ... just in case.
