What is the draw of a Ruger#1?

I'd never heard one was more famous. I just checked grafs and they had two of each type. Midway also has two of each type in stock.

3 inch was always preferred and more popular, in doubles anyway.

I've never owned one but there is something sexy about the lines of the Ruger #1 and I love the fact in can be found in a ton of calibers

Right on! And as noted left handed shooters can use on just fine!

Even though all you lefties are weird!

Weird! Weird? I think NOT! Yeah, I shoot left handed....
Interesting topic for a thread. I'm exclusively a bow hunter, but have 3 #1's. I like the lines. As someone mentioned earlier, there is something sexy about a #1....

Don't believe everything you read! :sneaky:

What calibers are your #1 s?

I've always loved the Ruger No. 1. Even when I was working for SAKO, I secretly kept and shot a No. 1 because I liked a) the single-shot concept, b) the classic looks of the rifle, c) how relatively inexpensive it is for what it is--a super-strong piece of gear that's easy to shoot accurately, scope and accessorize and d) the fact that you can have a whole battery of them in different interesting calibers without breaking the bank.

As you can see from my avatar I'm a single-shot nut, so here's me being nit-picky and state what I like a little less about the No. 1. My main beef is that I'm not in love with the fore-end. It's too long and thick to really be in proportion with the rest of the rifle, especially in the Light Sporter configuration with the skinny 22" barrel. The thicker and longer barrel of the Tropical model (the one I currently have) balances out better, as does the longer 26" tube of the No. 1 B chambered for the 7mm and .300 magnums.

I regret not snatching up a .300 H&H when I could have. I also wish they made one in 8x57, or in .303 British but with a longer barrel than that puny 22" configuration. On the other hand, my next rifle may very well be a No. 1 in 9.3x62, or I could directly jump to reason e) - that the action is so darned easy to have it rebarreled for whatever you want in whatever length you want.

Anyway, I can think of few cooler rifles to take on safari than a Ruger No. 1 topped by a low-power fixed 4 or 6x.

I had a beauty Ruger #1B in .270 Win., and like an idiot in a moment of weakness, I let it slip out of my life

They are just gorgeous rifles.

The beauty of the No. 1 is on how elegant they are. I have three No1Bs in 243 Win, 270 Win, & 25-06 Rem, and love each one of them. I wish I could find a stainless 30-06 at a reasonable price and not costing a fortune. :)

I fell in love with the No. 1 the first time I ever laid eyes on one. I've owned several of them over the years, this one in 300 H&H I won in a raffle a few years ago. I knew this one was a keeper when the first 2 shots I ever fired from it at 100 yd. went thru the same hole. My son was with me and was actually teasing me about missing the whole darn target, we had to take a walk down to the target to see what had happened. Turns out that the first hole was a little key holed by the second shot, not bad for some quickly thrown together hand loads. I used that same load to take this nyala.

I purchased my first No. 1, a 45-70, on June 10, 1975 for $275 (new). I was 6 months shy of my 18th birthday.

I've owned another half-dozen or so since, from a .300 H&H Boddington Kudu to .458 Winchester.

Roughly 75% of all the game I've taken with a rifle has been with a No. 1.

They work for me!

Beautiful wood @PARA45 on that No 1. What caliber is it?

Well, I guess since brickburn got my 416 Rigby from the raffle I'll have to start looking for one of these. You gents have me convinced that I need one

ArmyGrunt one of our AH members @farrokhrt has a number one in 459/400 NE for sale. Don't think he sold it yet.

I can highly recommend the 450/400NE 3". Very accurate.
