Ruger No.1 9.3 x 74r With Extras

charlie,i know you got a raise from wal-mart.i didnt.

I'm new, and I may be "unwise", but this cannot still be available? I mean there is simply no reason I need this, I recently won, at auction, a decent 400 Jeffery (pics to follow)...but this looks supremely 'handy'....right? Somebody help me! This desire isn't rational, right?

Need is not the justification @Bob2176 ! It's the want!

your want is of a very sane man.

Bump, still available. As previously stated, the ammo has sold locally. Rifle, scope, rings, and dies are still available. 1,200 shipped

Sold pending funds to bilmcc!
I am having a blast with this rifle! Several blasts, in fact. Put on a Limbsaver and it tames the 286gr way down. Oryx 232s are dead on. Highly recommend this caliber in Ruger No. 1.

I use 404Jeffery.This is a great caliber.
I recommend.

I'm very glad you are enjoying the rifle! Those 232gr loads were almost boringly accurate!

@Voodooracer... Sorry to hijack, But wanted to ask if you still have you Brown Bear 500 Jeff? Have you shot it much and what you think of it,,,

No problem SWARA, I do still have it, I just haven't had the opportunity to get out to shoot it yet. I'm planning on making a range trip this weekend though, I will do an updated review post once I do shoot it. I've been dying to try it out!

Ruger No 1 rifles are a blast for sure. Glad this one found a new home!

I have a 450/400 N.E. 3" in No. 1. Seven rounds left me with a recoil headache. Not conducive to a lot of practice. So I got this nearly identically configured 9.3x74r to practice (and for black bear and elk if I ever get a tag). With the limbsaver, I can shoot the 286 grain loads all day long. Using 232gr, I think it would be great for plains game. I am hoping the practice will transfer to the big gun, with a little tweaking on the range, 3-4 shots per session.

Hi Voodoo,,,,
Good luck with that Brown Bear... I have one in .450 Rig only thing on mine is that I have changed the recoil pad as the standard pad was a bit on the hard side. Have been a bit concerned with the recoil lugs (or lack off) as they don't look like they will stand up for long. I was going to fir a barrel lug but have not got round to it.
Look forward to reading your report

Hi SWARA, in my post about the brown bear I too updated the recoil pad, the original was much too hard. I also had weight added to the buttstock and forend to a total of just about 13lbs. I didn't think much about the lugs, I will have to see how well it holds up. It won't be my daily shooter so I hope to never encounter a problem. I will post a range report on that original post after I shoot it tomorrow.

The Limbsavers or a Pachmyer recoil pad makes all the difference. I have a No1 in 458 Lott that was just hard on the shoulder. But once I put the slip on Pachmyer on it things got very tolerable!

I had installed a Limbsaver on the 450/400, and the recoil on the shoulder is not painful at all, but it did not help the recoil headaches. I guess at my advanced age, that is my recoil limit.
