Trophy room lighting - LED question

I really am enjoying this thread. I would be interested to see what kind of led lights you go with. I must replace some of my track lights with new leds soon. At least when I get my lion back(optimistic)!

My trophy room is almost the exact size as yours, I used track lighting on the entire length and width of the cathedral ceiling, each section is on dimmers so I can keep certain areas very bright while dimming to a softer light in other areas. I also have 2 ceiling fan lights that are fixed but rarely used, the track lighting is plenty. I was told when doing the lighting to have the light shine on the very tip of the nose of any animal you wish to highlight, seemed to be a good suggestion. Also good idea on the balloon framing but dont forget to put plywood on your walls before drywall. Makes a big difference, I also added heavy blocks between studs in certain areas so I can hang very heavy mounts if need be, you just need to make some location notes before you close everything in.

adding a picture helps to take one back to particular day and the individual hunt for each animal, my father has similar pics and when I was a kid I would marvel at what it must have been like in that moment, of course back in the 1970s guys had cowboy hats, jeans, flannels, cigarettes, old rifles etc, pretty cool!

I am still looking for the best color range for led lighting that is specifically to light up mounts on the wall. Most people’s pics appear to be too yellow (as is mine currently with incandescents) but we don’t want the stark blue white of the other end of the spectrum either. The track lights I am looking at come with bulbs from 2700 to 6500K. They are expensive and there will be many, plus have to have scissor lift to install so can’t really try different colors. If I had to guess, which may be what I have to do, I’d pick 4000K and hope it works.
Anyone have details on specific light color to use?

. A photo next to each picture is what I’ve done for many years. I made the basement of my house my trophy room. I currently have a thread on the taxidermy section here, I used led lighting similar to the Cree leds shown here. Green walls look great IMO with the trophies. I’ll attach one picture.

@Philip Glass , I too will eventually add some track lighting to my trophy room, so I will be interested in following your results. I have done some outdoor landscape lighting myself and used a online supply place called Volt Lighting. They have a ton of good info and videos on their website and have a page talking about color and temps for LED. You might find it useful.

That is going to be an awesome addition to your house! In terms of lighting, you might want to consider what you use to light trophies and art, as well for general lighting, elsewhere in your house. If you use soft white in the house (2700-3000k) and go with a bright white (4000-5000k+) in the trophy room, those trophy room lights will appear blue the when you first enter the room, and likewise the rest of the house will appear red-orange after spending time in the trophy room.

Another trait I've noticed about LEDs is that the color temperature stays constant as they are dimmed. With a regular incandescent bulb, the cooler temperature gets lower (redder) as it is dimmed. The effect makes dimmed LED bulbs appear less "warm" or red...more like moonlight as opposed to candlelight. This might be a factor in your trophy room if you sometimes decide to dim the lights to watch TV or something.

Thanks I will take a look. The wives may find it silly but it is critically important to have the right light on mounts!

I am looking at the Halo system at Lampsplus.com. They have 8’ bronze tracks that are what I am looking for. With the low wattage of these LED lights you can just about put as many per track as you want. The track will handle 1920 watts and each light is just 10 watts! That said I am wanting 8 per track.

Did a post earlier from my old trophy room but got a new phone for my Bday and got this great photo of my new one. We moved into our new home this year. This is one side of the room all lights are LED not sure what temperature. Used the same paint color as I had before thought the mounts looked good on it.
