Ruger RSM "Stock Tip"

How many of you have glass bedded your RSM rifles?
I got one last summer in 416 Rigby and worked up some loads to carry around the elk woods in Colorado to get used to the heft of the rifle.
Now I'm starting to prepare the rifle for a trip to Zimbabwe so I pulled it apart to glass bed it and then read this string. I will admit this is my first foray into heavy magnums ( anything above a .340) and just assumed I should glass bed the action - maybe not??

Also foreign to me is the recoil lug extender? I have never bedded a rifle that did not have the recoil lug as a machined protrusion on the bottom of the action. This rifle has a separate bar with the recoil lug cast / machined on it that then sits below the front of the action.

Your response and experience would be much appreciated.

I think that PROPERLY bedding the RSM stock is important to avoid stock cracking, as well as to make consistent reassembly of the barreled action into the stock easier. Having said that, I think it's a job for a true expert in the field, due to the unique nature of the recoil lug. Wayne at American Hunting Rifles did mine, and it's flawless. He permanently bedded the recoil lug into the stock which makes reassembly much easier.

Do yourself a favor and call Wayne.

Here are pics of Wayne's bedding job.

Might contact Wayne to bed mine. There's one hell of a lot of meat in the RSM stock, and the wood generally sound, but bedding such as is shown above does have merit.

Sorry To Bring an old thread up!! I have a RSM in 416 Rigby - the 1153540 Stock, RH, .375 H&H/.416 Rigby, Heavy Barrel, Wlnt Cut-Checkered, Satin Finish* This one is for the older version where the swivel stud comes through the forend.

I was shooting it today and had some feeding issues nothing major as it was only a club shoot. My question is is the above model ruger a true CRF action? I thought it was but have some doubts now.

Thank you in anticipation

Agree, but the bad news is Wayne flatly stated he no longer will work on RSMs (I tried earlier this year to get him to do mine).

So now I have an AHR. Hmmmm..... :)

Of course, anyone who wants a custom RSM that's properly bedded by Wayne himself can buy mine in .458 Lott! It's for sale in the classifieds;)

I have a Ruger RSM 375 H&H made in 2007. The stock was broke during shipping. I have a few questions and need some help.

1. In detail what are the factory torque settings for all the stock screws. I contacted Ruger and the person I talked to said she would send me a manual and the settings. All I got was the manual. I called Ruger again about the torque settings and this time the girl said that they can not give that information out.

2. I need one of the screws for the front forearm. Ruger does not have them. Numrich does not have them. Who does.

3. I will be ordering from Numrich 1153530 stock. I believe this is the one I need.

Thanks for the help. If I am missing anything please let me know.

4. What size pachmayr decelerator old english recoil pad do I need for the Ruger RSM. I can not find a size chart.

You will probably need a grind to fit pad if using that model. I think Uncle Mikes or someone makes a prefit pad. Dont think you will find a size chart for a Pachy to fit.

The torque settings are in the manual. Have you read it?

Yes I have read the manual but unless I’m missing something I do not see any torque settings listed. I have a new Ruger m77 Mark II manual. Where is it listed at.

Thanks

Then you will have to measure it with a tape.

measured the stock I was looking for the measurements on the recoil pads. I could not find the info on pachmayr website. But I did find the info on midway USA website.

I sold this rifle a couple years back, and don't have much useful info for you unfortunately. What I do know is:

1. Don't know torque settings and no longer have my manual, but you may try calling Wayne at American Hunting Rifles and asking about torque specs. Though he apparently doesn't work on RSM's any longer, he knows more about DG rifles than most people on the planet.

2. I know of no other parts source than Numrich. Perhaps put in a notification for when the screws are back in stock?

3. That part number for the stock was correct for my .458 Lott and I THINK it's correct for the later versions of .375 (with swivel mounted forward of/not through the forearm).

As far as the recoil pad is concerned, I just measured my stock and ordered the size that was slightly larger, so it could be properly ground/fitted.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I recognize that this is an older thread, but does anyone know if Matrix Gunsmithing does bedding for or works on Ruger RSM's? I'm thinking about buying one and would like to reinforce it if I do.
