USFWS banned Zimbabwe ivory imports into the US.
It is not a CITES issue.Any other country that actually follows CITES can import the ivory.

US citizens are holding the ivory over seas in the hope that the USFWS will change the policy and allow imports again.

Can you clarify an issue on price? Specifically, please clarify the trophy fee issue.

Thanks!

Well I have watched Buzz Carlton's "Hunting the African Elephant" three times. Trying to prepare properly for the hunt. Wondering how bad the tsetse flies will be?
One question for anyone who may know, I have a good friend who is Canadian. Do you think it would be possible to have him import my ivory there for me to get at a later date when the U.S. comes to it's senses?
Any & all tips welcome. This will be my fourth safari, but first for Jumbo.

Yes a Canadian can import the trophy form Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe CITES Quota for 2016
Loxodonta africana 1,000 - tusks as trophies from 500 animals 03/04/16 I/II

More importantly:
Can an American import a Zimbabwe Elephant trophy into Canada?
Transferring ownership after the fact might be an issue at a later date if the Canadian buddy imported it.

I would call the folks at Environment Canada and ask them the specific question. They are quite helpful.

The Environment site appears to be down at the moment.

Brickburn,
After looking at all the maps, I know nothing, lol.....one seems to think there are lots of flies, the next none at all. I think my eyes are starting to bleed, lol......
I will contact Environment Canada. Perhaps they will allow an American to import there to a Canadian friend, but still keep ownership.
Thanks Pard

Well
I have read everything I could on the Canadian import laws and still don't know if it could be done. I guess I will let the taxidermist hold them. I have a commitment for at least two years or perhaps three. Hopefully Trump will fix this soon.

Jim,

I have hunted in the Lupane RDC and the Umguza RDC and never seen a tsetse fly. Not saying they aren't in some areas of the RDC, just not where I was.

All the best on the hunt if you do it.

Wheels, thanks for the info. That is great news. I am doing the hunt. Have my airline tickets already. BTW what did you hunt while there?

Now I just need to get in better physical shape. How much walking per day should one expect?

Mrpoindexter, are you doing this hunt as well? If so, when are you going? I will be there 3/10 - 3/20.

End of May: 5/23 to 6/1. That gives me a couple more months for USFWS to get their house cleaned out and hopefully clear up the permit process.

I just did a Tuskless, you will walk alot. I think we did 12 to 20 miles a day. Not sure how this hunt will go but be prepared mentally to walk to till catch up with them or until the Sun goes down. I will tell you though there is nothing better then following their tracks and I miss it and hope to do it again.

Took two elephant and a leopard.

You won't see much pg in those two DC's. Definitely an elephant area. Leopard is a possibility. Probably a decent chance at hyena and croc. I know nothing about the Kusile RDC.

Jim congratz on getting this hunt. It was offered at a very good price. Look forward to reading your hunt report. Have a great time!

Best of luck.

I hope to see a Leopard. I would definitely shoot a good one. Hope for a nice tusker. Hope I can walk as much as I need to.

Thanks, really looking forward to it.

Flights booked. Taking this on the end of two consecutive business trips so I ended up with 11 flights on 6 tickets and a full around the world. I am looking forward to this trip. Now all I need to do is learn to shoot a rifle.

Looking forward to both reports of @Jim Rea and @mrpoindexter ! We will be living vicariously through you guys on these hunts

I seriously doubt mine will be anywhere near as eloquent as Bob's, but I will do my best. I will try to write a few things down each day so I can put them in chronological order.
