My much desired and just recently acquired Whitworth Express rifle in .375 Holland & Holland.

Found it by chance in the used gun rack, bought it immediately. The thing is practically brand new, I doubt the previous owner shot it much. Had it on the range yesterday and put a box of Hornady's 270gr RP-SP loads through it. Groups ran 1.25" on average, which I think is quite good. Will take into the PA whitetail woods on Monday, but my expectations are low; I've had zero woods time this year so far and so am going in blind, no scouting. With a little luck though, we'll get it blooded. It's the odds on favorite for being the gun of choice for a wild pig hunt in TX in March too, so one way or another it will be experienced before it sees Africa. :)

Nice, clean looking whitworth!

that's a whole lot of gun for TX pigs.. I shoot most of mine with a .308.. but a .243 has been more than enough rifle on most occasions..

that said.. I was just at the range with my Win 70 .375HH this afternoon (I bought mine earlier this year)... I'm dying to find something to hunt with it.. I'm planning on taking it to SA in June.. but don't know if I can hold out that long... and might find myself hog hunting around here in a couple of months to satisfy the itch lol..

I've mostly used .308/.30-06 on pigs myself...obviously the .375 is over the top, but what the heck? I actually use the poor little piggies as an excuse to use a lot of my rifles that otherwise wouldn't see much field time...

Congrats on the rifle and on finding it how you did, looks nice!

congratulations on your new rifle!

im betting the rifle can do better then 1.25 moa, try some different brands of ammunition. Federal offers some very nice options including TBBC and Swift A-frames which are both outstanding bullets. Midwayusa has some great PG ammunition for sale here: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/6...grain-speer-trophy-bonded-bear-claw-box-of-20

+1

I'm betting you can get sub MOA out of it once you figure out what it likes to be fed..

My .375 likes Nosler Trophy 260gr partition factory ammo pretty well.. and will produce groups between 3/4 - 1" @ 100 all day long with it.. That's going to be my go-to ammo for my upcoming PG hunt..

Congrats on your purchase of the Whitworth they are great Rifles and highly underrated, I do my own re-loading and mine seems to like 300g bullets

That gun is very nice and new! Congrats, I'm glad you appreciate that excellent rifle. I hope it gets a lot of use!

Thanks for the replies all, I'm very happy with it. I agree, it 'feels' like it could possibly do better than 1.25", though I do consider that good accuracy. I've ordered an assortment of loads to try out though, from 250gr through 300gr and am looking forward trying them out. I haven't reloaded in quite some time, but it might be time to get the bench set up again...

Congratulations. Looks great.

If you set up the bench again I'm pretty sure you'll find a lot of members that will share their load secrets with you

My Whitworth seems to like the heavy bullets best but is still hovering around MOA with the 260 grain Nosler Accubond and a max load of Reloader 15.

That's a good-looking three-seven-five. I hunted Pennsylvania a lot but never used a 375 H&H. I did shoot a deer once back there with the 378 Weatherby though.

Nice rifle sir!

You will never regret buying or owning a .375 h&h! Took a black bear with mine this year. There is no such thing as too much gun... only too little. Go hunt pigs and have fun! Mine weighs close to 10lbs and i didn't find it too bad hauling up the mountains. Whitworths are usually a little lighter...
