Bravo @PHOENIX PHIL I applaud your stance & attitude. if the only reason we hunt is for the physical "trophy" (i.e. taxidermy), then we should check ourselves. Hell, if a person just wants dead animal decor, it is a lot cheaper to just buy it on the internet. It is the turn key experience.... whether you are talking about a DIY duck hunt or a $50k Tanzania safari.

So is it my understanding that for 2017 US citizens will not be able to import lions hunted behind a fence? Trying to determine if will be hunting Africa this year or start looking at some of my other bucket hunt list items. Hoping for leopard permits as well again to be released in SA.

My understanding is that it was effective immediately when Mr. Ashe announced the directive.

Well it is with a heavy heart with the ban I will be forced to start my search for a Lioness that has herpes, broken tail and no teeth for my quarry. Will make for interesting photo

Because as far as I know its perfectly legal, with a CITES II permit to import any lion from a CITES II population into Canada. So you can get a lion for cheaper than most hunts for NA big game animals and keep the trophy too, thank you for once USFWS

Just remember there maybe a different price for taking the cat home. Some lions are being sold as non exportable and there is a higher cost for them to be able to be taken home. Just double check so there is no surprise for you at the end of the hunt.
