Another Airline Announces Decision to Discontinue the Shipment of Hunting Trophies

All I can say is "Delta is ready when you are" !

That's what I said also...Where are the private cargo companies like cargolux....Let's utilize them and screw these guy's who don't want to transport our legally hunted trophies. And I hear they are a lot cheaper.

Before a quick update on this situation, I want to note that Cargolux has also decided not to carry any ivory or any CITES App. 1 trophies. I had hoped to use them last year to get a scimitar horned oryx home (they fly non-stop between Luxembourg and Calgary), but the shipment was refused.

I recently (last week) was notified by a shipper in Zimbabwe that my shipment from my 2014 hippo/croc hunt (among other things) was ready to go, and I was given the routing and dates. Then, two days later, I was told that no airline would carry the shipment because the hippo teeth were ivory. I gave the shipper a number of options to consider - separating the shipment; sending the teeth by mail; sending them to Ethiopia with a Zimbabwean friend who is joining me on my hunt there, so I could bring them back in my luggage; and, lastly, to try El Al.

El Al had taken the oryx last year, so it seemed worth it to give them a try. And guess what - they said they have no problem with hunting trophies, as long as the paper work is in order. The routing for me is a bit convoluted - Zimbabwe to Johannesburg, to Tel Aviv, and then non-stop to Toronto. While that's a good 1,600 miles from me, it's as good as it's going to get, and from there I can have it shipped by truck.

I hesitate to relate this because I worry about drawing attention to the good work El Al is doing, but something to consider if you're having trouble getting trophies home.

why not put the trophies on a ship?

apologies if its a daft question.

Same question I have had in my mine since this thread started a long time ago! There is probably a simple reason, I just don't know what it is.

El Al, not to mention Israelis in general, have a long history of doing what suits them in spite of anybody whinging about it.

I would prefer that attitude to become more widespread.......

Even one of the largest sea bearing shipping companies MSC has refused legally hunted trophies. I wonder if one could use UPS of Fed X . Good question for Robert and Rosella at SSI.

Thanks for that update on cargolux, what a shame they and other airlines are so moved by anti hunting pressure that they would succumb to their pressure. Legally hunted I guess means nothing, export permits mean nothing.

Yes thanks for sharing this update Hank. Unfortunate that another one is on the list

Where's SCI or DSC on this issue? I've heard nothing about their involvement on this issue. Anyone know?

I thought conservation force had a lawsuit on this issue that is under appeal.

What is also frustrating is that restrictions put in place by the US and European governments act like trade tarrifs on a particular industry for countries like RSA and Namibia, countries that qualify for trade benefit under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act.

FedEx and USP still transport hunting trophies as of August 2015. I could find nothing dated since then saying otherwise. Some 13 years ago or so, I sent a package that weighed about 2-3 pounds, from Skopje Macedonia to Little Rock Arkansas on FedEx. It was about $110 then for a three day delivery (I believe my memory is correct). So if this is our only choice to ship trophies internationally, get those credit cards out and polished up!!!

As long as you don't hunt in Africa!
My 2 crates were ready for shipping after all this "cecil " hoopla was in full swing and Delta is who my stuff was shipped through . Customs was a little backlogged took almost 21 days to clear customs and Ship to Dallas.

Yes, still shipping.

Only stopped shipping Big 5 or a subset. I don't recall for sure that it was all five.
