SOUTH AFRICA: NAMIBIA: Wintershoek/Ozondjahe Hunt Report 2015

A final thank you for sharing your adventure with us Hank. Looking forward to next years Ethiopian Report already. All the best!

R.

I just got to catch up on my reading.
Great job Hank, as always. Thoroughly enjoyed your report.

Just say Peter fell.

Report
One of the best reports. Congratulations. These are memorys forever (and of course for/with your son).

The taxidermist shop is impressive, with a 72-inch (no kidding) kudu in the office.
That is true.
This is one of the biggest Kudu trophy I have ever seen.
(Not an joke: They find that animal dead at the local trash place...)

You've clearly been there Bullhunter!

Thanks all. Enjoyed writing it.

Gorgeous Cheetah Hank! I am so happy for you! And a whole bunch of other excellent animals as well. As I read your report I kept hoping this was going to be the outcome.
Thank you for taking the time to do such a great job in relating your hunt experiences with us. I thoroughly enjoyed the read :)

Just reread this report ~ thanks again Hank! You're getting me all inspired for my first safari this summer!

Just finding this- GREAT !!

I have very much enjoyed your report and I am pretty jealous. You were able to take several great animals that are high on my list. Unfortunately, I can't import a Brown Hyena but have a Spotted version high on my list along with the others you got.

Thanks all. Vette447, it's areal shame that you can't import brown hyena, or cheetah for that matter. But there has to be some benefit to living in the frozen North!

Sorry, my reply went into the wrong thread. However, I did read your full report the other day and enjoyed it very much as well. Very jealous of your Cheetah too. That would definitely be one I would want near the top of my list if it weren't for the import restrictions to the US.

I've been playing with the computer, and seem to have (sort of) figured out how to take a still picture from a video (I say sort of because I'm not sure I could repeat the process!).

Anyway, some of you will know that Ostrich seem not to like me very much. At first, I was hurt by that, but over time, I've come to look at with some degree of equanimity. In fact, it's given me something of a challenge - find the ostrich, and take it out. On every safari. This is a picture of of the one I shot in Namibia at Ozondjahe last year. He was down with the first shot, but not dead. So I went for the head shot. The result:

Awesome shot!

Hank is my hero.

I never even realized I hated those confounded birds until I starting listening to him.

But now....

Well, that'll definitely put them down. Haha

Cool still shot from the video

Aw, shucks. You guys are too kind!

Thanks for the kind words towards Wintershoek Safaris there Hank as well as a great read!
I hunted with Hannes a couple of weeks ago and his still mad about his missing socks...
You know your part of the Wintershoek family and we are all looking forward to having you back soon.

Regards to your lovely family.

Best

Y

Great stories Hank. It was amazing to read the story of the tough dik dik from the actual hunter, as I heard the story from Theo. I have been to Ozondjahe twice and hunted with Theo and 'Goddie' both times. Early in the first hunt we were on the 'back side' of the mountains (with Ozonjdahe peak) and Theo was telling me about how touch African animals are. As an example, he related the story of the dik dik shot in the back end with a 300 that ran up the mountain only to run back down! Small world.

I have to agree with your assessment of Ozondjahe, Theo and Goddie, and the entire staff. Great place to hunt - that place is freakin' huge! Theo works his butt off to get you what you are looking for. He and Goddie simply do not give up on a track. I have seen first hand some mighty impressive work done by both of them on a bloodless track, without the aid of Blackie and Chaka! Johanna indeed embodies an outstanding waitress. Great kid!

Thanks for the great read and allowing me to relive some great memories at Ozondjahe! :)

Glad to hear that Theo is still at it! I have to agree - he doesn't give up, and I like that in a PH (or in anyone actually). Gotfried is also great, and together they are a fantastic pair to hunt with. We had a good time on the back of the truck, which always improves a hunt.

By the way, I blew the shot on the dik-dik!

And now you've made me want to go back!

Yup, Theo and Gottfried are still at it. What a great pair to hunt with. Both have a great sense of humor. I laughed with both of them a lot. I'm a bow hunter - when I was there last month we got an eland (what an amazing experience). When Theo radioed Gotfried to bring the truck I told him to not tell Goddie that we had an animal down, and it was prime time when Theo radioed. When Goddie arrived with the truck, the dismay at leaving the hunt during prime time that was evident on his face cracked me up (objective achieved). His expression changed dramatically when we pointed out the eland laying on the ground about 75 yards from blind. He has a million dollar smile.

I blew a shot or two myself.....

Well, you made me want to go back first!!! :)

Hank, I just saw and read this report of yours. Great job, you got some fantastic animals and got to spend some good quality time with your son.
I also had a great hunt with Wintershoek Safaris back in 2007, with Strauss as my PH.
