Thanks @Wheels for the good thoughts for those affected, I'm with you.

Oh behalf of those enduring this disaster, Thank You. For your thoughts & concern.

Saturday it was touch & go here at my place. What's here is nothing like what is happening East & Southeast of me. So many are suffering so much right now & for days to come now before the waters even begin to receed. Locally the river is still rising & the worst is yet to come for many.

Glad your okay. At times like this I don't want to hit the "like" button. It just seems wrong. Appreciate your post.

Certainly have been praying for the folks there, continues thought and prayers go out!

For me personally this is no more than one big inconvenience. I live in a small town (only three Red Lights) that's a cross road for two Federal Highways. We are only 20 miles from Interstate 10, a major route of East West Interstate Commerce. Right now a 60 mile stretch of I-10 is closed and all traffic is being re-routed through here.

It has to be comical to watch, but no fun trying to go to the grocery store only 8 blocks away. Oh well, this too shall pass.

My prayers to the families being impacted. We received about 12 inches at my house in Florida, but no problems other than some minor street flooding. Folks in the county south of us had close to 15 inches and are dealing with flooding in their houses - same people endured this earlier this year.

I am supposed gator hunt down there first week of Sept...... I gotta feeling that might get postponed. Certainly not near as important as what those folks are dealing with! Thoughts & prayers for sure!

It has been a long slow moving disaster. I came somewhat close to flooding at home on Saturday, but did not. My business and of course my houseboat are fine. One of our employees house flooded in Lafayette. It is already gutted and drying waiting on an adjuster. Youngsville was hit hard over the weekend.

I went to work Monday, kind of living in my own little world, with everything ok. Tuesday I watched a news report out of the Baton Rouge area and could not believe the tragedy that was unfolding long after the rain quit falling. Areas that never flooded were/are under water in the BTR area, particularly Ascension and Livingstone parishes.

And to the west of us, Lake Arthur was under a mandatory evacuation order yesterday with water rising on the Mermentua River. It is expected to crest Friday.

I-10 is shutdown from 165 all the way to I-49.

Plenty of people have helped with rescues and cleaning homes. It is a terrible tragedy but good to see a little good in the human race.

You can probably scratch that gator hunt with all the fresh water.

As of now there is no indication LDW&F will postpone alligator season. Below is the only press release I have read, and it is postponing a meeting and states tags will be issued after the meeting.

I am scheduled to pick up my tags this coming Monday. While this is not very high on LA's priority list I do not think they will postpone the season statewide. Maybe the east zone would be postponed for a week but the west zone does not open for three weeks from today.

Release Date: 08/17/2016

Aug. 17, 2016 – Widespread flooding in southern Louisiana has prompted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) to postpone Wednesday’s (Aug. 17) alligator lottery and commercial hunt information meetings for Joyce, Manchac, Maurepas Swamp, and Pearl River Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) until Aug. 24.

The meetings will be held in the Louisiana Room on the first floor of the LDWF headquarters building at 2000 Quail Drive in Baton Rouge. The lottery meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with the commercial meeting to follow at 1 p.m.

Licenses and tags will be provided after each meeting.

For more information, contact Forest Burks at fburks@wlf.la.gov or 985-543-4781.

Thought about you with all this going on. Glad you have come through in good shape. Sorry to hear about the devastation to your employee and others in the area.

My comment was aimed at the likely prospect of a bad opening, if not the whole season. Gonna be hard to find a place unaffected by the fresh water.

Good luck.

mother nature can be a bitch sometimes.

The fresh water does not hurt us. We are all fresh water anyway. I am going ride on my property this weekend, hopefully the high water flushed out our ponds.

Over the years I have hunted right before and right after tropical systems and even hurricanes, sometimes we did great, other times not so well.

shouldn't bother them. We filled 255 tags the week after hurricane Ike in Johnson Bayou after they let us back in.

I sure hope the waters are receding now. Best wishes to everyone in LA.

I am one of the lucky few in my area that did not flood, although we watched the bayou down the road very closely. Nearly every one of my friends and all but 5 of my employees were flooded. One employee lost everything during hurricane Katrina and just lost everything again in this flood. Most areas around my home in Gonzales are still holding water and not expected to drain until the weekend. I don't have TV other than HULU so I'm not sure what kind of national coverage this is getting, but its not over yet. As a Louisiana native who has been through a number of floods and hurricanes, I will say its been truely uplifting to see the community rally together and the "cajun navy" pull together to rescue those who were stranded by the rapidly rising water. I believe this is the reason the death toll has not been higher. I spent my morning up in Denham Springs helping friends salvage what they could, which sadly was not much. Recovery from this will be a long process.

The field behind my back fence has been used as an improvised airfield.
