Id be interested to know if anyone has paid to have their hunt filmed? If they would be kind enough to share the cost it would be much appreciated.

Ive thought about doing this instead of bringing home trophies.

Thanks!

I did and I was so happy I'm doing it again. Mine cost about $1500. That included two copies for me and my buddy. It also included a gag reel (sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself). Our cameraman became as much our friend as our PH.

DO IT and make all your friends watch

We had our hunt filmed in 2011. There were three of us hunting so we had two cameramen and two trucks. They filmed from the time we got off the plane to the time they dropped us back to the airport. We did a one day photo shoot at Pilanesberg Game Reserve just out of Johannesburg. They got some great footage of plains game as well as a young bull elephant charging one of our vehicles. Some great close up footage of a leopard and her cub. It is a little intimidating to have a camera on you most of the time but after a couple of stalks you are ok with it. They filmed the good the bad and the UGLY. They put 11 days of hunting into a little less than two hours of great viewing. At the end they had about 15 minutes of bloopers. It cost us $2,500.00 which we split 3 ways. They sent us three copy's. I have watched it many times with friends and find something new each time. They were very careful about being respectful of the trophy's we took. Not much blood and gore so it can be watched by the whole family. Liam of Liam Urry Safaris arranged it for us. Money well spent.

I agree 100% with Bruce. We did have a great time, but the secret is for you to research who you get to film your safari.
You are welcome to drop me a PM and I will be happy to share who I have worked with.

Hi UKhunter, having your safari filmed professionally is an awesome addition to your hunt. Professional and personal graphics, maps and music to compliment your experiences on safari is one of the best ways to capture the memories and spirit of your entire trip. I think in your particular situation (possibly not taking trophies home) a professional video as well as photos is a MUST. I would be glad to give you a good quote for your safari, please contact me directly. Feel free to have a look at our website for an example of our quality of work.

I can highly recommend @iGala Productions. I have used them before. You won't make a mistake getting them to take care of your safari.

Hey buddy, yes I have. I used Igala as a matter of fact and Pierre Rogers was our videographer. One of the best decisions I've made. The final product was awesome, reasonably priced, and really the trip wouldn't have been what it was without Pierre. Pierre became a good friend and is also a certified ph that's been all over Africa and the world and is a huge asset to have with you.

have had two safaris taped, one cost me 500.00 because he was visiting my ph and just wanted something to do.it came out great, narration and music, professional all the way,but that is what he does for a living.the 2nd one cost me 2000.00.it also was great.if i ever go back for my 6th time ill have it done again.im embarrassed when i look at them because im such a ham.oh well.

IF you decide to do it have fun! I dressed like Teddy Roosevelt with jodhpurs with riding boots and hunted in a kilt on a couple of days too!

Have FUN

Edward I understand. I laugh when I watch our safari video, I was hamming it up too. I've done several hunting shows so I guess I went into hunting show mode, lmfao. I even caught myself saying stupid stuff like, "this Ruger American in 270 sure did the job on that Impala. Especially paired with the Federal ammunition." I'm such a dork

lol Hornady would probably be pissed if they saw it considering Ruger and Hornady pair up together on everything. I do use Hornady bullets in my 30 cal and under hand loads but I took factory ammo so I really like federal for factory loads. Plus anyone who has read my hunt report knows how pathetically the Hornady factory DGS and DGX loads preformed for me. (n)(n)(n)

i guess were alright as long as we dont get stuck having to pay union dues for acting, choke, choke.

I also have an upcoming trip (12 months away;)) I received one quote already... but just curious about everyone else, Did your price include having to pay for their stay at the outfitters as well? My quote was from what I felt was a reputable company, it was high... plus I had to add their stay on top of that.

Josh, in my experience, having dealt with a few filming crews, this is the norm. The outfitter has nothing to do with the filming crew, so the hunter will be responsible for the accommodation of the cameraman. Outfitters should not charge you the full day fee, but a much discounted rate just to cover their own costs of accommodating the extra person.

Hope this helps.

Take Care,
Marius Goosen

i did not get charged for their stay.

I bought a GoPro that my son wore and got some great video. Also another member of the hunt party wore one and gave us video. I just tipped the guy!

CAustin, GOPRO's are excellent little cameras for general filming and capturing of the intense moments. I perosnally use them often, especially with dangerous game that can be up-close and personal. With good editing you can do a lot with the footage, BUT they are made for backup angles and action sequences. They're field of view is too wide for the impact shot. Having a good zoom in combination with GoPro footage makes for excellent material to create a professional video. Nonetheless, I am a huge fan of GoPro and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to play around with footage.

Gizmo, thank you very much for the kind words. Like you said, we had an excellent time on safari. Your family is incredible and I had an awesome time filming your safari. Its was definitely a tough one for all of us considering the circumstances with your buffalo, and it would be for any hunter, but it was a pleasure to be alongside and be part of the big story at the end of the day. What a bull it was too! I was over the moon when we found him again. I hope everything is going well on that side.

Kind regards

Pierre
