Disturbing trail cam pic

The one up front actually looks like a well fed and well kept chocolate lab.

I thought so as well! Others think the same! To me they all seem well fed to be wild. Ask around but if you keep seeing them......take dare of business.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate everyone weighing in on this. I will check around but if they come to my bear bait this fall I will have to think carefully....full mount or euro?

I like the idea mentioned about asking around or whether you see them during the week or not. On the other hand, I would put the dog food out and the sound suppressor on the 10/22.

I don't want to shoot someone's dog. But these ones are far from home, if they are owned. It just surprises me how far they would have travelled to get there. Who let's their dogs go for a walk about in that kind of area? This city boy does not get it.

If there are Wolves in the area they will make short work of these guys

My in-laws , whom I known since I was nine seem to be in the middle of the dog dumping grounds in East Texas. Through the years they have adopted several well fed strays that happened to show up on their farm. Most showed up with no collars. Dogs get dumped for all kinds of reasons, someone dies, divorce, moving to new locations, etc. I'm willing to bet this is the case here, If they continue to hang around The future pics should show a much leaner pack of animals.

THE DINGOS ATE MY BABY!!!!!!!!!;)

Seriously, the first thing I would do is talk with the local law enforcement and find out the legality of shooting "ferals"......in some places, it is illegal to do so, irregardless of whether or not they are on your property, chasing game, etc. About the only time you can shoot a dog is if it is coming after YOU, and you better have several reputable eye witnesses. More than one person has been caught doing this (shooting ferals), and the end result is a lot of $$$$$ payed to "owners" (irresponsible owners:mad:), and of course, it was their daughter's beloved pet & now she needs therapy, or it was a grand champion show dog that was worth a million billion dollars, blah, blah, blah. You know the drill.
Besides that, people take a dim view of shooting dogs......doesn't matter what type of damage they were doing; you should have called a vet and got a tranquilizer gun and then had the dog spayed/neutered and found it a good home afterward. If you shoot it, your just a heartless bastard (never mind that the original owner dumped the dog and left it to starve).
Been through this whole issue with feral cats; fortunately, they aren't as beloved as dogs......but still, we got NO pleasure from having to shoot 20+ cats in a year because they were dumped on/near my Aunt's farm. She would feed her two, but then the damn strays would show up and take over.......used to have barn swallows in the milking station and purple martins in the yard....the ferals made short work of those, and then started on the local cottontail population.
Good luck......I'm glad I don't have your problem.

On another note, where do these idiots who think "spay and release" of feral cats get there information?? Just how is this supposed to be a "good idea"? The are still vectors for disease (including rabies) and still menacing wild bird populations.......and people just dump more strays in the same area:confused::rolleyes:

I am a sheep man so any dog without a collar far from town is fair game. In years past we had lots of trouble with stray dogs. Make no mistake they are just as destructive to the wildlife as they are to livestock.

223 to the head. Problem solved.

Pheroze, You can't shoot dogs (feral or otherwise) in Ontario (I know your in Quebec, but I would wager it is the same) except to protect livestock. It is an offence if you get caught, and worse yet the social media backlash can be horrific. I know because on one of my properties I have a pack of the neighbor's dogs running deer on my land all the time. Best bet is to contact MNR for some guidance on the issue. Otherwise apply SSS.

They are all to fat to be feral, find the owner and get it sorted out

Egads what a pain. I don't want to create trouble. I just thought it was a really bad sign. We are quite remote.

Pheroze - I am a dog person, really I am. After seeing 3 non collared hounds far from any household, my only question would be:
What caliber?

I don't think that you can tell if they are feral or tame by how their body weight looks, perhaps they are very adapt at killing.

But looking at the photo how many owners would have three different breeds of dogs that they just turn loose to run as they like, especially three totally different breeds.

If I would be in the type of situation that the OP states and I saw those dogs at least one of them would be pushing up daises, and the other two would be running for their lives.

As for what caliber, it would be the closest one at hand.

If you happen to see them again, I'd take them out. If you don't see them again, maybe they belonged to somebody or moved on to new territory.

I've seen some pretty viscous packs of feral dogs while in Iraq. In that case, it was a pack of about 7-8 dogs. They present a threat not just to wildlife, but people too. Only thing to do is take them out.

shoot and nobody will be the wiser. Coyotes have to eat too.
Pinhead MNR policy is to be ignored.

The saying in farmland RSA. Shoot, shovel and shut up.

The issue isn't the dogs. The issue is the poacher that is on your land with his dogs. Agree the lab is porky and couldn't outrun a slab of bacon, much less a deer.

Seriously, I think you have someone running dogs on your land

The cabin is actually surrounded by crown land. Technically anyone can hunt it, although using these dogs for hunting would probably be illegal. Usually we are the only ones in our area because of its secluded location.

My friend is heading back up with my game cameras. Let's hope for photogenic moose and bear!
