Sako 85 jeffery

you could slow it down even more then that and it would still be effective. keep in mind most 500 NE rifles only get around 2100fps with a 570gr bullet and NO ONE questions the power of the 500 NE cartridge. Norma even marks its 500 NE ammunition as doing 2100fps with a 570gr Woodleigh soft/solid.

@boldo 42 you can always add weight to the stock. ive done it myself with other rifles and as long as your careful its not hard to do.

Plenty of help in here , i don't believe in driving flat out so loading down a bit suits me fine.

even with the 500 NE load (670gr at 2100fps) you will still want to add weight to your rifle. 10 pounds is too light for even the low and slow 500 NE. most 500 NE and even 470 NE rifles for that matter tend to weigh at least 10.5 pounds with 11 pounds being more common for the 500 NE. you can trust me when i say that a little extra weight can go a long way, especially if it helps balance the rifle.

That SAKO is 9.9 lbs., where the rets of the Safari Line if 9 lbs. and the Classic line is 8 lbs.

G'day Redleg
I have heard there has been some ejection issues with 85s and scopes , while i'm not planning on putting a scope on the jeffery i'm interested to know if there is an issue.

Cheers.
No issues with either rifle.

Just looked up a photo and price of this rifle. What a gorgeous rifle and priced up there with a new 98 Mauser. Wasn't aware Sako made a rifle that looks like it came out of London!!!

My CZ in 500 Jeffery is 11.25 lbs without scope, 12 lbs with unloaded. I could see it being a pound lighter but definitely not with full house loads. Mine feels just about right and the balance is at the midpoint of the magazine plate which is where I like it, feels light and lively in my hands but still points nicely.

I had a cz 550 in 416 rigby and i never got used to the stock , always found it too chunky just never felt right . Moved it on for M70 safari in 416 RM no dramas . So i figured the stock on the CZ 505 and 500 would be about the same , that's why i went the sako.

as you can see with my rifle which is built off a CZ action, its rather chunky as well. your stock needs to be pretty thick to take repeated hits from these big cartridges especially if you load them hot.

Love my kodiak in 375, recoil is no issue, however, the recoil pad could be softer!! The scope is turned to the side to give more clearance, but never had an issue with cases ejecting. Took the above boar the other day with a 270gr woodleigh at 37m, didn't take a step.

Got one had to lengthen pull 14" so installed 11oz Mercury recoil tube now balance perfect, side effect recoil reduced somewhat very accurate rifle

Nice, I have two 12oz mercury recoil tubes in mine cause i'm a wuss.

Always the way , 500 turns up today and i'm back to work tonight. Afraid range report will have to wait till next week...bugger.

So would i , the pad on it is a bit slimmer than i would like but , we'll all have to wait till next week when i finish work before i can take her out.
I shall wait in anticipation for the range report :A Blowup:

Congrats on your new rifle. It's really more of a push than a sharp recoil lol ... :) Just treat your new baby with respect and soon it will be like shooting your favorite deer rifle.
