During my African Safari the weather was very nice most of the time. A little cool in the mornings and evenings but hot during midday. The hot weather during midday was a good indicator that most of the animals would be coming to water. On a couple of days the winds were really howling. That was the case on the day I shot my Gemsbok...the gusting winds even kept the cape buffalo on edge. My PH and I tried burning zebra dung but my eyes would water too much. We needed to mask our scent so we burned braided TP which my eyes could tolerate. He called the braided TP monkey tails, rat tails and warthog tusk and I really worked at masking our scent. Slowly but surely as the sun started to go down and the wind settled down. And just when I felt my opportunity starting to fade.......a nice male Gemsbok came in and gave me a shot. The shot was good and the arrow took out both lungs. The gemsbok still managed to go 100 yards before piling up.

African animals are just plain tough! You fill them full of hot lead and it's like giving them energy pills! Congrats on your hunt.

Another great video. You need your own TV show. I like that you included some footage of burning the monkey tails to mask scent in the windy conditions. It really sets up the fine details of what preparation and knowledge is necessary for hunting in challenging conditions. That is where hunting with an experienced outfit pays off. Lots of people think hunting from the hides is easy, and that's not always the case.

I could not agree more! Well stated.... Another great video by the way....

Call me crazy... I love the smell of buffalo dung burning (y)

It sure can be effective in a swirling wind.

I must be allergic to it because my eyes were watering so much that I could hardly see out of them.

That's funny BSO Dave! Maybe you can market some new cologne... "Essence of an African blind" :).

Thanks again for the video! Am going to Namibia and try for another gemsbok in Sept.

Thanks for sharing
