20 yard Shot dead on 30 yard shot way off??

Hi again guys
hope I can get some info from you please, I bought myself a new bow sight and started to tune the sight in and got the 20 yards to hit dead on centre moved back at 30 yards and started the proses but it seems my arrows are still hitting left could my centre shot be out my bow is left handed ..any info would greatly be appreciated.
I did not sight in my bow at 30 yards with previous sight as I did not have the space

The further you move back, the more obvious it becomes if you are actually centered. I'd say even though you appear centered at 20 yards you likely aren't and the increased distance just multiplies the deviation. I bet if you center it at 30 yards you will still be centred at 20. Try that first. If that does work then there are other options to try. On most modern bows your 20 and 30 yard pins are nearly touching. I'm confused why your previous sight didn't have enough space. When sighting in a bow, set your sight so its as low in the mount as possible so your 20 yard pin is as high as possible. This gives you room for additional pins to be zeroed. If the sight is too high in the mount then your 20 yard pin will be very low causing little remaning space for further yardage.

Thanks so much Sheephunterab for the reply ill centre my bow at 30 yards first and see what happens , sorry what I meant with space is I did not have adequate length to shoot from to sight in my bow so shot at 20yards only ill check the centre during the week ill give an update soon thanks

if that doesnt work, try a bubble level on your sight. You might be canting your bow riser causing the shift at 30 yds

You may also need to "walk back" tune your bow and adjust the rest. Shoot at 20, 30 and 40 yards to do this. You can google it or go on you tube for info on this.

I agree with Lee M that you should try the walk-back tune first. You already started the walk-back process by sighing in at 20 yards dead on and then shooting at 30. This video does a decent job of explaining the walk-back tune. If the rest adjustments do not get your arrow hitting back on the plum line, then you may have some spine/head weight issues that may need to be addressed.... Try this first and see what happens.

I totally agree with Buck Wild and Phoenix Phil's comments on canting your bow. I was about to say the same thing but decided to read the other posts first. In the old days we had to cant our bows to keep the arrow on the rest. With my Mathews Solo-Cam and a whisker bisket I hold the bow as "vertical" as my eyesight allows.

It also could be that your draw length is a bit too long or you are torquing string with release (my bad habit). If you shoot a field pointed bare shaft (no vanes) it easier to see effect of for example string torque.

Also make sure your are not torquing bow with improper grip. Great source for information is archerytalk.

Just a question.
Are you using a drop away rest in your bow?
They are more forgiving for arrows coming out off line since the arrow doesn't have to slide down the rest until it starts its own flight.
I don't think anyone has said anything about paper shooting your bow at about 5-10 feet in front of you the way the paper is torn by the arrow will tell you about the same info the walk back will show you. The tip will be to the right or left of the vans telling you to move the rest back to the middle.
Hope you are getting things adjusted. Most good rests will have a left right adjustment that has marked on them to do the adjustment.

I have had good results with paper tuning at 6 ft. and then if it's good try again at 12 ft. just to make sure you're not just at the right place when it flexes to give a false hole in the paper.

So after using all of your guys info (much appreciated) finally got it right 20 yards hit where I want them and 30 yards hit where I want them still need a minor pin adjustment for 30 yards but all is well shot a few arrows into each other but I am very glad with the results moved the rest (drop down) a small amount at a time till I got it centred and did walk back tune to make sure and paper tune as well and boom seems legit now I can practice again for my first bow hunt
