Best rifle companies and calibers for dangerous game?

So what would you guys say is the ultimate dangerous game cartridge ?

Norma African PH in 375 H&H, it's loaded with a 350 grain Woodleigh bullet. Comes in full metal or expanding. Norma also has a solid in 300 grain, however it's not a Woodleigh bullet. I thinks it's there own, it used to be a Barnes.

Joshua: Do NOT get a 460 Weatherby would be my recommendation. Looking at the recoil charts will tell you that it's going to be a painful experience to shoot and a gun that not many are really capable of handling.

What is the biggest rifle you have shot? What type of hunt (PG, DG or both) are you planning? A 375 H&H or a 375 Ruger would my recommendation. The Ruger will cost a lot less than the H&H and they are ballistically no different. You can set up a 375 Ruger (or a 416 Ruger for that matter) with a great scope for ~$1500.

BTW, in your original post, you listed a 416 rugby: Is that the much anticipated rifle collaboration between Ruger and Rigby?
Most powerful rifle I've shot is my 30-06 browning. I would like to get a 416 rigby, but what is the difference between 416 rigby, ruger, or rem mag?

In a modern rifle, the 416 Rigby can push a 400gr bullet significantly faster than the 416 Remington due to the massive brass of the Rigby. But unless you hand load you likely will not realize this in factory ammo. Factory ammo is loaded to be used in both today's rifles and the rifles of yesteryear. If you do load your own, and you push the 416 Rigby to it's potential, it will return that favor in recoil.

If you match the 416 Rigby to Remington ballistics, the pressure will be lower in the Rigby. An advantage? Well maybe, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything to have lower pressure. This comes at the expense of larger more expensive brass and a longer action on the rifle.

The Ruger basically matches the ballistics of the Remington but with a different case design.

The one that you shoot well and are comfortable with.

For most of us, this means starting with a .375 as has been suggested above several times. I went from thinking that .375 kicked like a mule to thinking the recoil was mild, but it didn't happen overnight. Others may be able to jump straight to a Lott, but I had to work up to it.

So find a .375 that fits you, shoot your buff with it. Then once you're totally addicted, get a bigger rifle. :)

Kalashnikov 7.62X39 freely available everywhere in Africa cheap :)

I think 375 caliber is a wise choice. I wanted a rifle that I could use in Alaska or Africa and choose the 375 Ruger Guide Gun. Originally was going to get the 416 Ruger, but in my area 375 caliber loading componets are more available so I went 375 Ruger. My budget was quite a bit lower then yours so that is why I went for the 375 Ruger. I load a Nosler 300gr. Accubond traveling 2590fps. with a 1/2" 3-shot group. My elk load. I also load a Woodleigh 350gr. PP traveling at 2391fps. just under an inch group for thick skinned game. Scope I choose was a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36mm duplex with Alaskan Arms quick detach rings so I could use express sights or a different scope if I wanted to. Please keep us posted which rifle you choose with pictures.

Ok so I might purchase a 375. I have been looking at the Winchester m70 series for a bit. I think I might place an order on one. Thank you for all the advice guys! I will update you in the next couple of days for the 375 I'll buy :)
The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express or Super Grade are great looking rifles. That's a great choice in 375 H&H. When you start considering scopes, think about eye relief and a reasonably low power on the low end. A 1x4, 1x6 or 1.5x5 are common. In my opinion, the highest low end power would be a 2 or 2.5. Swarovski makes a 2x12 that covers all you'll need, but it's a pricey scope.

You only need a 404 Jeffery:
It`s premium ammo is always available , Barnes/Woodleigh. And not as expensive as a .416 Rigby or it`s ammo.
It will kill any animal dead, provided you practice the next two years to hit the vitals of what ever you want to hunt.
It has the lowest chamber pressure of a .40 caliber dangerous game rifle.
It`s recoil is on par/maybe a little more than the .375 Sako.
It is one of the great classics....
Your PH will like you very , very much...
You will be one of the few owners of a really great dangerous game caliber...
You will be extremely glad you followed my advice when posing for a great trophy buffalo....(y)(y)

I think the same as Gert.

I´m a Sako fan, but you won´t go wrong with either the Winchester or the CZ.

If you have no experience with large bores, take the .375HH, it will do nicely for buffalo.

I would go with a rifle you are comfortable with. You said that you shoot a 30-06. If you like that gun's, style and feel, go with that brand for your big bore. I have a bunch of Rem 700s so when I decided to get a gun for my Buffalo hunt I went with a Remington 700 in 375 H&H.

Although this would not be my personal choice, your most sensible selection of rifle from a 30-06 upward would be the 375 h&h .

It will do what ever is needed and you won't be disappointed with its ability.
