SOUTH AFRICA: And The Adventure Begins

Congrats on the wildebeest! Look forward to more stories!

Woke up in day three well on the groggy side, but after breakfast and a quick call home to the wife, Jonathan and I headed out on foot once again in search of a nice kudu bull. Shortly we saw two young bulls, and kept walking. After that things got quiet, coming across hyena track and a warthog den but not much game.

Around ten o'clock we spotted some cows and as we kept walking we could hear and faintly make out two small Bulls fighting in the bush.
We returned back to camp shortly after, had brunch, and the usual mid day heat nap.

Once everyone was awake, the boots were on the ground in search of a nice bull. Walking all across the farm plenty of game was seen, and it wasn't until later in the afternoon that Jonathan pointed out a bull feeding in the bush along the road we were walking.

By the time I was on the sticks, I could only make out the bull turning its head and walking off into the bush. We continued on hoping to come across him again, when not much later he was right in front of us sauntering along down the road no idea we were behind him. Quick let getting into position as the bull leisurely walked away, time seemed to stand still as I waited for him to turn. Finally Jonathan gave him a holler, he turned to the left, and was hit with the shot, taking off over a fence into the pasture being grazed by the cattle.

We ran, caught up to him in time to catch him broadside once again, firing another bullet in, dropping him where he stood. Quickly getting to the spot he laid, we could see just how beautiful of a bull he was, and after admiring him, headed off for the bakkie because we were running out of sunlight.

Getting to the farm yard it seemed like everyone around hopped into the bakkie and we took off to load the trophy up. Then we headed up to a beautiful ridge overlooking the farm, with the sun setting in the background for pictures all around.

Back to camp in the dark, dropping this beautiful animal off fo skinning, another lovely Flintbeck supper and plenty of sundowners all around. At this point I must tell you my wife is accusing me of smiling more than in our wedding pictures! But no matter what happens from now on, this trip has been a success in my eyes!

Congrats on the kudu! Nice pic with great background!

An almost 30" blue wildebeest and a great kudu with nice deep curls your having a nice trip for sure. Glad your getting to walk and hunt like you want to and enjoying the stalks.

Very nice. Looks like some very good trophies, and a great adventure for you and the family.

Go get'em stud!!!! Kudu was my first animal too.... Thank God. Or I would have obsessed for 10 days!!!!

Two very nice animals to start off with.

Look forward to the rest of your report.

Well Done Aaron. What's next on your list? Go get em!

The next day we all loaded up in the bakkies and headed to beautiful concession that starts at the foot of a mountain, and runs all the way up the top. Nyala was next up on the list, but apparently they had already been warned that we were coming!

As we pulled through the gate we were greeted by two young giraffe standing on the road! The two teams went their seperate ways, and Jonothan and I made our way to a standing water hole where we hoped to find some game milling around but all was quiet. We made our way to the flat open plains seeing blesbok, blue wildebeest, warthog (which never seem to quit running), and hartebeest.

It was time to get the boots on the ground, so we parked the truck, and made a plan to try and scare something up on foot. We headed out across the mountain working our way higher, but no nyala were to be found. After a few hours of walking, we made our way back to the bakkie and spotted Pieters truck on the road, and down below us were a herd of eland half bedded down, and a herd of zebra passing by. Assuming the dad was after an eland we held our position under a nice shady tree waiting, and waiting to hear a shot. After nearly an hour we heard the shot, got to the truck, and headed down to what was a nice big bull laying there! A productive morning all in all!

After the usual brunch and nap routine back at the lodge, Jonothan and I headed out back to the same property. We checked the waterhole again but there wasn't any action, so we headed out on foot, seeing hartebeest and giraffe, but the baboons made sure that anything in the vicinity were well aware of our presence.

Back to the lodge after an amazing day of hunting. Another night spent with a delicious meal, cold drinks, and laughs all around the bar!

Beautiful pics

Great kudu, very similar in horn shape to the one I have. It will make a beautiful mount.

Sounds like a great trip!

Looks like a blast!

Aaron. What ranch was that big Giraffe on?

Beautiful Wildebeest/Kudu, hopeful I can take animals as nice next month. Thanks for sharing.
