The dream of hunting in Africa resides deep inside me, every now and again it bubbles to the surface. Went out shooting yesterday, took my 480 Ruger, 454 Casull, and my 375 Ruger. I shoot in high desert conditions with plenty of natural targets, stumps being one of my favorites. So yesterday, just to up the fun factor, I picked out 4 stumps, and ran some close quarters drills. Close shooting with a scope (my 375 wears a 2.5-8x36 Leupold) is challenging for me, it slows me down, so since I put quick detachable scope rings from Alaska Arms LLC on, I went ahead and popped the scope off. First off, the Ruger is pretty light, without the scope and rings, even lighter, recoil certainly stepped up a notch, but worth it for how quick and easy it is to rapidly acquire and change targets. I was shooting Hornady 300gr FMJ bullets loaded to just under 2600 fps, I have several hundred of these I bought after Hornady ceased production and had them on clearance. I ran through a box of 20 pretty quick, and it was a lot of fun, although the stumps are all but gone now, and juniper is some tough wood. Someday, and when it comes, I want to be ready.

I have same rings and scope on my 375 Ruger Guide Gun. Have it sighted dead on at 200yds. with Nosler 300gr. Accubond load traveling 2590fps for elk hunting. Thing about getting a NECG detach Ruger peep sight for my Woodleigh 350gr. PP load and sight in at 100yds. That 350gr. PP load is traveling 2391fps. That way have close quarter hunting with peep sight.

as long as you are having fun! learning to handle your rifle before the hunt is 80% of the fun. Shoot straight shoot more often!

I love this rifle, too much it would seem, as I worry about shooting the barrel out! I load it with 300gr Sierra Spitzers, and shoot it out to almost 600 yards, or bust rocks and stumps at 20 to 200. This is the very first rifle I have owned that has express sights, at first I didn't care for them, but after a few hundred rounds, I find it is a quick way to make good hits at close range, and still be able to place a bullet at 100 yards if need be. When shooting a rifle, I use a scope 90% of the time, my 2 45/70s are open sights, and I shoot my 375 with open sights at least one session every 2 months or so. I really like the express sights with my cast bullets too, be an incredible deer gun for hunting in the thick brush.

Nothing like popping off shots with 375.

If I can, a box of these will be on the menu today! Absolute destruction on jackrabbits, would love to call in some coyotes.
