Recommend a .375 bullet for North America

Hey Matt, it's nice to shoot something that doesn't kick your brains out isn't it.

meh if it doesn't kick then its boring .

I have one gun that i keep despite being boring, and that's a 338 WM (because its useful). otherwise im not interested in anything smaller then .416".

I'm not real impressed with the discontinued Hornady 300 gr. .375 boat tail. I was shooting some handholds out of my Sako .375 H&H yesterday, at my home range. Target holder is a piece of soft spruce plywood 3/8" (1 cm) thick, with a snowbank behind. I was skiing out there today and found two bullets on top of the snow. Was quite surprised at the complete lack of damage on one, and the odd "expansion" of the other. I realize that plywood and soft snow are not animal hide and flesh, but I was not inspired. What do you think?

I've found boat tail bullets in general to be less accurate than flat base bullets.
Also generally speaking, it seems to me that boat tail designs would have a less secure grip on the lead core than a flat base (aka straight sided) design would have.
If I was interested in 1000 yard competition shooting on windy days, likely I would have another look at boat tail bullets.
But for what I do (hunting at not so long ranges) I have no interest in them.

ive seen this as well, with one exception. no other bullet shot better in my CZ 550 in 375 H&H then the 300gr Hornady SPBT. aside from that one case ive found flat based bullets to shoot the best.

I have found Nosler 300gr. Accubonds at 2590fps to be very accurate in my 375 Ruger Guide Gun. Coworker use the combo on a 3pt mule deer with complete pass through.

I have used Sierra bullets to good effect on elk and caribou, they put some pretty hard cores in some of their bullets, I rarely get much expansion at all from the 300gr 45 Cal bullets fired from my 454 Casull.

I load the 200gr. Partitions in my 300 H&H. Only thing I don't like about them is lead tips burr up after firing in box magazine.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
