New .375 has arrived!!

I would buy any factory ammo with 300 Woodleigh soft points. For solids any with a flat metplate. I reload so use Woodleigh hydrostatic projectiles.

I am curious, have you been able to compare the hydros to the 350 gr Woodleighs? I am trying to figure out if the large bullet still adds something to the 375 that the hydro doesn't.
 
I would be curious about the 350 grain bullets for buffalo as well, but if your going to hunt PG on the same trip, I would stick with 300 grain bullets. My 375 H&H loves Federal Premium 300 grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. However I found Remington Premium loads with 300 grain Swift A Frames to regulate closer to Woodliegh Hydro Solids loaded in Federal Premium line. Nothing against other brands (other than Hornady DGS and DGX, great practice fodder), but these are what I found available and priced fair. Used the trophy bonded bear claw on lion and of course not a buffalo, but recovered a perfect muchroom completely in tact that went in between the shoulder and neck and was stuck in the rear end.

I used a 416 rem mag on my first buff with one A Frame followed by 2 hydro solids.. I wished I'd had two A Frames loaded first. I suggest you follow your PH's advice on the soft and solid combo, beats going against his wishes and having something go wrong, with him pissed you didn't listen! But a well placed premium soft has to be your first shot! Nothing wrong with TSX's either and in fact a whole lot right. Hunting buff with my 505 Gibbs, I load all TSX's.

So I would get a box each of TSX, A Frames, Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, and Hydro solids... Then go shooting and figure out what the gun likes. If it does not like the hydro solids for some odd reason, I would try Sledgehammers and/or Barnes Banded solids. It would of course be of great benefit to you if you find a premium soft and solid that regulates to the same point of aim.
 
Beautiful 375, congrats. I'm a fan of the shorter barrels, what's the length on that about 22"?
I'm considering having my 550 cut back.....

The Talkeetna is a 24' barrel. I like the term boom stick, thats a new one for me! The guy at my FFL dealer called is a "new play pretty" which I also got a kick out of.

Would make a great rifle for hunting Brown Bear in AK as well. I vote you chase those after your SA buffalo hunt ;)

A Talkeetna has been in a local shop for a very attractive price for nearly two years. Speaks to me every time I walk in. Just not sure what I would need it for. I have back problems and maybe the 300WSM Montana should be my heaviest rifle. Can't afford dangerous game anyways. However I did recently purchase a 25-06 8400 Montana for a good price. Undecided if it stays a 25-06 or is rebarrelled into a 338-06, 35 Whelen, 9.3x62, 375 Scovill or 400 Whelen. I tend to fantacise when I'm laid up from back surgery. Great rifle you chose. Like I said, this is my choice for off the shelf 375. Practice lots. Good luck!

You'll love the fast target acquisition of the fire dot. I hunted in the RSA with a VX-6 2x12 with a fire dot a couple of years ago. In many cases shots must be made quickly for success. I was able to target and cleanly take a Warthog in about 5 seconds. That red dot shows well against animal hide colors. Post some groups you get from that Kimber, its a nice looking rifle. I have hunted with a Kimber Montana 300 WSM for about 10 years.

Funny, I found the same about the TBBC in my Whitworth. The Hornady DGS and DGX also group well, but I too use them for practice more than anything else. The regular Remington SP seems to shoot higher than most at 100m (by almost 3"). Wonder what velocity it has.

I have a Leupold scope to mount on my .375, what are you guys using for scope rings on your .375's. Just want to make sure I get something the first time that will hold up to the .375

You need to consider what size rear objective lens is on your scope and think about if the bowl handle will hit it or interfere with it. I put a low power Leupold VXR 1.25-4 on mine and the rear lens diameter is fairly small so I didn't have a problem .
Just something to consider before you order it.

I'm running Buckeye Tactical's stainless picatinny lows on a 2 piece low base. The stock I have is designed to provide a low eye position when you have a proper cheek weld. Mainly to support using open sights as well as a scope. I had a 20 MOA base on it for a while but find the lower setup more comfortable to shoot.
