New .375 has arrived!!

What a beautiful rifle!!!!!!! From my understanding in regards to loads it is common to load 1 or 2 soft points on top followed by solids if they are needed to anchor the animal. However, i'm sure it is just a matter of preference

GREAT looking rifle by the way... wish you all the success and happiness hunting with it.

It would be factory ammo for me

Reedy: I'm like Bruce and really like the Swift A-Frame. However, it's become difficult to find in factory ammo as the Remington Premier line of ammo that featured the Swift A Frame is no longer available. Not sure what happened there. A good source of custom ammo that I use, since I don't currently reload, is Hendershots. Check out their large line of custom loaded ammo: https://hendershots.net/custom-ammo/

fyi, Hendershots is based in Maryland and is supposedly the largest seller of Dakota rifles in the US. Nice guns, but a bit out of my price range. I have bought and used their ammo for my 338 WM and 375 Ruger. Very accurate.

NORMA do Swift A Frame in various calibres... including 375.
I have just bought a whole bunch in 458 WM for my elephant hunt next month. My son will be hunting buff as well with these!

Thanks guys for all the input!

Reedy: I have the wood stocked version, the Caprivi, in 375 H & H. That's it in my avatar with my buffalo taken last July. I don't reload, so it is factory ammo for me. I used Barnes ammo with 300 gr tsx bullets. They performed perfectly on the buffalo; broadside heart shot - he ran 50 yards and tipped over stone dead. We recovered the bullet against the skin on the far side - perfect mushroom!

Thank you Custom!

Good luck getting the new toy set up and ready to go.
Nothing like a Buffalo to motivate good shooting!

Thanks Brickburn! I agree on the motivation!!

I love my talkeetna, very accurate has a great feel to it.

375 Ruger, what grains(s) do you shoot? From most of what I've seen its pretty standard to go after Buff with 300 grain, and at least 270 grain

I mainly shoot 300 gr, but have also played with the 270 gr on the range. I originally bought my 375 Ruger for an Alaskan brown bear hunt a few years ago. With the 375 Ruger, your choice of factory ammo is Hornady and Hornady. The the GMX is a good bullet, but I also got some custom stuff from Hendershots. I went with the 300 gr Swift A Aframe and it gives me about 2600 fps out of a 23 inch barrel.

Reedy, I am curious on how you plan to break in the barrel of your new rifle. I know people's opinions vary widely on the need or technique for doing this. I usually clean the barrel between each of the first 5 shots, then go to shooting 2 shots and cleaning for the next 10 rounds and then shoot a 5 shot group with the last 5 rounds in the box.

Leupold VX3 2.5-8X36

Thank you gents for all the input, this site is an amazing place to gain lots of knowledge about these things!

375 Ruger,

I guess I havn't given it much thought yet other than shooting a few rounds then cleaning, then trying to get it dialed in, too excited about finally getting it in my hands!

Another nice thing about the talkeetna is that it holds four in the magazine and one up the spout, instead of three and one.

Larry4831,

Agreed, another nice feature about this gun!
