My new 375 needs a scope

trijicon 1-4X light up reticle with no batteries
 
I just returned from a hunt where I used a camp rifle , it made me realize what I have always known but taken for granted .

THE IMPORTANCE OF OPTICS !

I have had a VX6 2-12x42 in my safe for over a year and this hunt reminded me of the value of optics so much that I immediately fitted it to my 375 Winchester Mod 70.

it really is a great scope and will cover you in most if not all situations that may arise on a hunt or in the bush.
 
I agree with Desertdog, that calibre shooting very flat so why use a small magnification scope, down here in thick bush you rely need to see small branches and with this a little more magnification like 8X as maximum and perfect. If you looking for a scope that would be my suggestion with out price in mind I would go for the new Zeiss v8 1, 1-8x30... Mounted with a Ernst Apel swing mount, and use the open sights if you prefer up close. But with this combination you will manage to do a one rifle safari, and you will take a Impala on 200 meters on you way back to the camp..:Happy:...
 
I put mine on qda mounts and have a 1-4 trijicon sighted in an 3-9 swarovski and the iron sites to choose from depending on what im doing that day and what the area im hunting in is like. Expensive, but very versatile.
 
Well it has been a long time since I started this thread about my new Ruger Guide Rifle in 375 Ruger.
I just got the Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20 Custom back from Leupold. I wanted a gray one so they did a custom color for me since their gray was only one shade off of black.
I think the color will look a lot better than a black scope on a stainless gun.
Will take it out and get it sighted in as soon as the weather improves.

Most important aspect of an optic on a heavy kicker is eye relief, in order to keep said optic out of your forehead. Seems like a minimum of 4" is necessary, combined with a LOP and eyepiece length that allows you to take advantage of it. The aforementioned Trijicon 1-4x24, for instance, only has an eye relief of 3.2" (https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3b.php?pid=TR24-3). No thanks...not even on a .375. You have to scour the specs to make an informed decision. FOV is critical as well. Good luck!
 
I don't know what eye relief the Trijicon 1-4 has but it seems almost a good inch more than my Leupold VXR 1.25-4 or any of my other Leupolds. I have 2 Trijicons and absolutely love them. Clear glass, no batteries, good mechanics and the green triangles I like to use are awesome. I had the 1-4 on a .458 Lott and I have a 3-9x42 on a .375H&H. Both are on Warne detachable mounts.

According to specs from Trijicon, their 1-4x is only 3.2"; and the Leupold VXR 1.25-4x runs 3.7-4.10". A scope with only 3.2" on my Lott would hit me on the noggin every time, without a doubt. We're all built differently, though. I need a long LOP, I guess. I love the Trijicon scopes for all the reasons you mention, just not on the heavy kickers.
 
Well...specs are one thing...but all I know is this...my VXR set at 1.25 works at 4" eye relief for me. The Trijicon (while it works at 3.25" I tend to put at 5.5" from my eye for the same view as with the VXR. Just had my son help me measure. What it tells me is that the Trijicon has much more leeway in how far you can put it on the rifle. I would like to hear from others to see what they experienced but I do not want to hijack the thread. Neither scope I's have an issue with on a big boomer but I do prefer the Trijicon.

Glad it works for you; no doubt Trijicon optics are very nice and it's hard to beat their dual illumination.
 
They are nice. As far as glass and optical quality goes, Zeiss, Swarovski, S&B and I'm sure Leica are better but what I like on the Trijicons is the simple post reticle, the illumination as you mention, the robustness (so far) and decent glass (seems brighter than my Leupolds and I love Leupolds). They are heavier scopes though. I was just tired of the same old duplex reticles or the busy LR reticles with hold-over lines, etc.
 
I have 2 Trijacon 1.25-4, these have up to 5" of eye relief. One with the Amber the other Green picket Post reticle. Great scopes one goes on my 416 Rigby. Also have an Aimpoint for the Rigby.
 
Another vote for the Trijicons. I prefer the 2.5-10x56 model with green triangle post reticle. Works great at dusk or night when it's sometimes difficult to see standard black crosshairs.
