WANTED: Recommendations for Lord Derby Hunt in Cameroon 2016

Im going with Faro Safari Club 14th Feb 2016....a dream hunt and second time lucky for me I hope

Casey...........I contacted Bernard Sehabiague at the suggestion of Christophe Morio. I also spoke to Rudy Lubin Safaris 3 years ago when they hunted in CAR, and sent them an email two weeks ago for pricing on their new Cameroon hunts. Both list prices in the mid 40's, but that is only for the hunt, not the trophy fees. There are other fees, taxes, charters, gun permits, transport of capes and skulls, almost too numerous to mention. The totals as I calculate them run from a low of about $65000 to a high of about $90000, not counting personal expenses such as travel and tips. I think 70K total would be about the bottom end for LDE in Cameroon. I don't think political turmoil or Ebola has caused any fire sales. Incidentally, had I found a hunt in my price range, I was going to use the rifle I shoot best: my 300 Win Mag.......good luck in your search.....FWB

INSANE costs for this hunt, in my opinion!!!!!!
Would also not use the 300WM for this hunt... 416 not my fiorst choice, but of the two that you mentioned, the 416 is the better bet,
Good luck with the costing exercise.. $90k... shit load of RSA/ Zim/ Zambia / Tanzania safaris for that money!!

Bruce.............Although some members posted regarding cheaper LDE hunts, I could not find them. Perhaps they were SCI or other "show specials". I did contact every outfitter listed in this thread (I believe) and some not listed. While hunts ranged from a low of 37000E, the add on fees and currency conversion still led to a lower limit of about $60,000......often more. As this thread is now nearly a year old, would like to know how the LDE hunts went for those who bit off this pricey safari. I will mention that there are mule deer hunts on this website and others offered at $8000 for a week-end hunt. $4000 per day would equate to $56K for 14 days. That gives some perspective from the USA. Incidently, in Feb in Salt Lake City at the Western Outdoor show, there will be 4 day mule deer hunt(s) that will go for more than a quarter of a million dollars. Sheep hunts that will push half a million. It would be nice to swim in those circles..............................FWB

A quick look at Arjun Reddy's website: http://www.huntersnetworks.com/hunts/Cameroon/Cameroon-Savannah-Hunt/37

23000 Euro for 12 day hunt for LDE, Buff or Roan, 4 other 'lesser' PG species
1000 Euro for license
3000 Euro for LDE trophy fee

1300 Euro for Buff trophy fee
or
1500 Euro for Roan trophy fee

So let's go with the Roan, that gives a total of 28,500 Euros. Multiply that by $1.09 / Euro = $31,065

$31K for both a LDE and Roan is still expensive to me, but far less than $90K.

+1 regarding what Phil said.

Might also ask James Jeffrey about this.

I have 15 separate email conversations with Arjun, and other listed on this thread....................There are many fees not listed, or listed only as "permits, visas, pre-taxidermy, crating, govt fees" and many more that you may want to specifically ask about. I will stand by my statement regarding costs quoted to me......................FWB

Didn't mean to come across argumentative FWB. Clearly I was not aware of all the required extras that get thrown in.

No worries, mate. Didnt mean to sound testy...................This is the last of my "bucket list" hunts, and I can't help but get cranky when I think of how much it costs. I think Arjun has the best price. I don't know the man, but conversations are positive. Christophe is solid as well. It may well be worth it in the long run. But no matter how much civil unrest, Ebola, drought, flood, climate shift or Customs Embargos, LDE is too damn high. I have gotten much closer to booking this hunt than just casual looking, and each time I do, there is another govt fee thrown in. Also, I cannot get Euros for less than about $1.21 even though the official rate is much lower. Many operators charge Americans $1.31 regardless of the exchange rate, knowing where we are from, and expecting us to pay in dollars.
In my next life, I will be a rock star, and money will be no object. (Although perhaps I would get distracted or catch a social disease)
Unfortunately, this life is tougher.

regards as always..................................Bill

Take a look here for a possibly better exchange rate: www.usforex.com

My dream hunt for sure, I would also add western buff Roan and sitatunga....only thing stopping me is the funds. :(;)

The buffalo bug is bad enough. I am pretty sure that cocaine would be a cheaper addiction! And yes, total costs for most of these things demand some serious thought. My 14-day hunt hunt in Moz in '17 lists for about 17k. However, after trophy fees, shipping, add-ons, tips, and travel - I will be north of 35K - closer to 40k. I have also done some pretty extensive research into a LDE hunt. I could not get it to come in under 60k no matter how I did the math. Like you Bill, I even tried to work through my own Euro conversion. I am afraid LDE and the argaili will be safe from me during this lifetime.

You guys are scaring me with talk of this kind of money! Can collecting handkerchiefs be considered be an outdoor sport? Played guitar in my previous life, but never made rock star status!

As I mentioned previously guys you could go the unguided route with Cam Greg who sets it all up for you, looking at around $15000.it's a great adventure and I reckon that you have a 25% chance of connecting with LDE but 100% buffalo if you are fit, mountainous .Didn't see eland but did see day old tracks so they are there.
I'm going back to cameroon with Faro River Safaris through Arjun Reddy who has the best deal at the moment and reckon it will probably be about $30000 when all is said and done however I must admit to being willfully ignorant of the prices sometimes as if I added it all up I wouldn't go! I'll write a full and honest report on the return and I hope it's a positive one! Arjun has been really thorough and by far the best agent I have dealt with.Any advice on this hunt will be gratefully received.

I started this thread last year. When I went to Dallas I got a contract for less than $25,000. It included 12 dayhunt, trophy fee for LDE, license and tags, domestic air to Ngaundere, dip pack ship. The agent is one I have used before and I guess is as reputable as any. They say you get what you pay for, so maybe I'll come up short, but after checking references of previous hunters who had taken this hunt, I thought this was the best deal. One hunter I referenced only saw one by day eight and took it, 48 inch. He said it was one of the best of his many safaris. My hunt starts Jan 30 so I'll keep you posted.

If those numbers are close to correct "all in" then this guy may become the most popular outfitter in Africa. Look forward to your report and very best of luck!

Having hunted bongo 2 times and LDE 1 time between 99-2002, I could never begin to hunt them again. I'm definitely envious of those who can.

Correct... even if I had that kind of money to throw around, I'm sure I would still rationalize and rather opt for better value for money and take numerous other safaris to the same value... could just NOT see myself paying $90k for ONE eland....so, my trophy room will have to go without one of these, I 'm afraid!!
